Tonight the guys react to the All Star Game and brainstorm ways to fix All Star Weekend. (10:25) Another NBA Coach received the axe today, where did it all go wrong? (34:47) We do not have to wait until April to talk Draft, so lets do it. (45:55) And of course get it off My Chest and more!
[00:00:00] Yes.
[00:00:03] You are now listening to the sound of sports reports as ordered.
[00:00:08] And do me a favor out there, y'all.
[00:00:12] It's all free.
[00:00:14] Like, subscribe, share, YouTube, wherever you get your podcasts, Instagram, Facebook,
[00:00:21] all of the above.
[00:00:22] Put the notification bell on YouTube.
[00:00:25] Yes, sir. We're going to talk a little bit of NFL draft. We're going to talk a little bit of NBA, whatever that was this weekend. Exactly. We're going to talk about another NBA coach in the unemployment block. Wow. But let's get this thing started with a little thing that we like to call it.
[00:01:40] Get it off my chest.
[00:01:44] So.
[00:01:46] Floor is yours. books started off 30 and 13 gave coach Adrian Griffin his walking papers on January 24th. So as a champion, I expect coach Rivers to say, you know what, Milwaukee is a championship team they know nothing about time zones." That is not the talk of a champion. That is the talk of a new head coach that's been a career assistant living the easy life
[00:04:21] under somebody like Phil Jackson or something. This sense when I first heard it. And then it played out to where it didn't make any sense. And that's the part that I get that we all make decisions whether it's corporate, personal, young, when you're older, what the case would be. Make decisions. But as long as you get back to the drawing board, they can figure it out.
[00:05:40] Hopefully, that's the case.
[00:05:41] And we'll talk about that more going forward.
[00:05:43] But having dudes in the dunk contest that are players did not react to Jalen Brown's dunks at all. He was doing in-game dunks. Like, even in the young man, he wore his jersey, had passed away. It's like, I understand that you want to pay homage.
[00:07:00] But just pay homage.
[00:07:02] Don't associate with a dunk, because when
[00:07:04] you pay homage to someone, sit in the chair. And I thought it was dope that he had it on live, but I was with my son and his friends. And they went to Kyson that's Instagram. And it wasn't live. He wasn't live streaming on Instagram
[00:08:20] when Jalen Brown did the dump.
[00:08:22] So even that didn't have the magnitude.
[00:08:25] It was like he just was recording it.
[00:08:26] Or he was on a Face Reaching for the rim Jaylen Brian's was doing in-game dunks with his Celtics jersey on Like it might have been like pregame woman. So like I think the whole thing like I think I think the scoring was whack I think it said it said of Whatever good energy you had
[00:09:41] Thinking about the all-star game weekend prior to his be him being in the finals overall weekend. You know, obviously last night was the event. So I watched some of this game, not a lot of it. And everything I saw was a culmination of this NBA season.
[00:11:05] Carl Anthony towns with 50 points lost by 25. That's what Draymont said.
[00:11:07] Draymont, they look like a temple. You're engaged mentally and physically in the action. We had a young man who was just kind of standing out there. You got to give everyone playing time. He just was standing in the action, standing straight up. And a kid got blocked into his leg. He had to get life flighted off the field. And it's very sad, but it's like if you're in that moment,
[00:12:21] you see it coming, maybe you avoid that.
[00:12:24] But if you're not engaged in it physically and mentally,
[00:12:28] that's when to get a good putback dunk. Right. And then you have Luca just kind of standing there. And, you know, Dane goes up to get the putback dunk or whatever.
[00:13:42] And he bumps into Luca because Luca is not really trying to buy a solid.
[00:13:46] He's just kind of standing there.
[00:13:47] And he gets injured that way. But I remember sitting there thinking like, I was at Jeff's house, you know, my friends out in Utah. And I was like, I'm glad I didn't try to go to this. I'm tired to tell right now the watch is boring as game. Let me ask you a question real quick. Do you think that the venue or the city plays a part in this?
[00:15:00] Because, you know, last year they were in Utah.
[00:15:02] This year they were in Indianapolis.
[00:15:03] Salt Lake, I think Salt but it wasn't. I was wearing a Nike hoodie and a Kyrie jersey over it. I wasn't bundled up, so it wasn't even that cold. But it just was nothing going on downtown.
[00:16:21] Whereas Indianapolis maybe was kind of the same vibe, but I think-
[00:16:25] Well, I think more people were-
[00:16:26] They had a while. Yeah. We didn't really pay attention to it
[00:17:40] because home field advantage in baseball
[00:17:43] is not really the same.
[00:17:45] Right. What ideas do you have about All Star Weekend? I got quite a few, but I'm gonna let you cook real quick. An idea that I heard, one thing was like, I think I was watching Bruce Eisend, Maybe It's a Different Show, but I know I was watching the show, but I heard it on the podcast, I don't wanna take credit for it. But essentially they were like, Wednesday night is when stuff starts.
[00:19:02] So guys either get into the town,
[00:19:04] so Wednesday night, Thursday,
[00:19:06] they're doing their volunteer stuff,
[00:19:08] they're doing their social stuff, I heard an idea saying go two on two, but guys don't want to do that because you don't want to be out there on the island. Steph versus Luca. Luca doesn't want to be out there trying to play two on two on that stage. Because like that's, come on, like. Yeah, I heard three on three, like, hooping up style back three on three.
[00:20:21] I think three on three might be a little,
[00:20:23] might be a little bit more intense.
[00:20:24] But I still don't want it.
[00:20:26] I don't want, I want you to, three, five man teams per conference, tournament style, you know, something like that, you know, versus the one big game with everyone together if they're not going to play anyway. How much time do you need for that? You need as much time to play? You still want that one on Sunday. Well, you can still, I mean, it doesn't have to be first to 100
[00:21:43] or you know what I mean, anything like that.
[00:21:45] You know, it could's no part anyway. Yeah, you can, if you had Paul, George, Luca, and, and give me another Western, like Devin Booker on one team, it wasn't like, oh, Devin Booker's gotta be the point guard. Right. But if you had like hypothetically Aiden, DeAndre Jordan, Jokic, like, okay, yeah,
[00:23:02] you might want to break that up to get some smaller players
[00:23:05] in, but for the most part, I think the top,
[00:23:06] if you go top five Moran in there, potentially. You know. I saw something that said LeBron ruined the dunk contest. Yeah, and I was still even there.
[00:24:20] I'm not paying out.
[00:24:21] I don't, yeah, I didn't really watch too many of them.
[00:24:23] I mean, I don't like the fact.
[00:24:24] He's a very particular man.
[00:24:25] I don't like the fact that he didn't do it.
[00:24:27] Yeah, I don't like the fact. get one of these professional dunkers is YouTube dunkers. Yeah. Yeah. Pair them with the real NBA dunker, not like, you know, no disrespect to Jaylen Brown, but he's not a real dunker. Right. Like one of these Gerald Green. I mean, the in-game dunk Gerald Green had against Houston when he played for the Nets,
[00:25:40] and the dudes from Houston had to hold themselves down
[00:25:43] before they jumped off the bench.
[00:25:44] Right. When he caught the alley-oop
[00:25:46] and he windmilled it. They should move that. Yeah, so, or, you know, if you wanted to do some promotion, if you wanted to do some promotion, you could bring G-League players out there.
[00:27:02] You know, you already got McClung out there.
[00:27:04] Yeah, you can.
[00:27:05] But I don't know if the G-League,
[00:27:06] I don't know if the G-Star game. Like, dude, this is your first All-Star game, chill out. Yeah, the skills challenged,
[00:28:21] the hole was way too big for the ball.
[00:28:24] I'm not with it, no skill challenge for me.
[00:28:26] Yes, it's their rotation like they're going up in a corkscrew These other guys this you got it. You have to get guys you already measured them at the combine who has 44 inch vertical Get that guy let that guy know in
[00:29:42] Trainee camp. Hey, you are gonna be one of People would be like, yo, LeBron said, or do you think people would be like, man, get your old ass out of here? It would. And it wouldn't matter next year
[00:31:01] if they took it serious this year.
[00:31:04] Like the East versus West, But since, like I said, the since the narrative surrounding these players as individuals, I think it's bigger than whatever their team alliances because we talk about people like people aren't Lakers fans, they're LeBron fans. People aren't Bucks fans, they're Dane fans. Right. So doing it because a couple of people don't like me, you know, because he's got the outside of the move. You know, like, like Charles, you said I'm not a role model. Yeah. Well, you know, I would want it to work out, but I'm not sure that the allegiance to a team
[00:33:40] really exists in sports.
[00:33:42] We talk about it with college sports
[00:33:44] and guys moving around and coaches moving around know if the All-Star game resonates with them the way it should be. That makes sense but while we And that's your center trying to stop Joel Embiid. That has nothing to do with Jock Vaughn.
[00:36:20] Now, there was some complaints about the offense that they were running.
[00:36:24] Dem Whitty was very public about it, but Michael Bridges apparently was talking We've been friends since F-TAC, first term Airmen Center, Germany, 2001. So me and him cool. We've been cool over two decades. We grew up with a guy who's an executive chef, like he has, he's like a consultant for restaurants now, New York, Atlanta, Philly. So like he basically says, yo, this is the menu.
[00:37:40] I want you to run this out, I want you to do it.
[00:37:42] So I want you to play this and so forth and so on.
[00:37:44] So I know him through Drake. the team he was like yeah I'm done with this this dude like this dude's been through war yeah he was like I can't deal with this Brooklyn you know I mean so it's just like at a certain point you have to figure out do we ride this all but yeah like I said I have conversation my pops like you know every team is about championships I'm like I don't think so I
[00:39:00] think some teams just about surviving the season no are trying to go all in to get a championship but I don't think OKC is crying if voice, but if the team coaching staff was really that like in tune, I don't know if the coach coaches, I know you have to have a certain level of arrogance to succeed in any business, any format, especially in a competitive level, you have to have a certain level of self resolve and self assurance to where you can't
[00:41:44] always let people dictate how you make decisions. But if you got people on your staff,
[00:42:45] best mean this Joe's side guy probably has plenty of money. You can pay these guys whatever they owed but in the same sense. Yeah, don't forget he was the one that wouldn't trade
[00:42:49] Kyrie to the Lakers. Once like Ocean's 11, one of my favorite movies, might actually
[00:42:58] probably, I might watch Tonight. Brad Pitt was teaching Topher Grace and all these young
[00:43:04] Hollywood stars like Pokern is like, what's the though. You remember all the other stuff that was no, I'm not saying that I mean any and they put it out. Yeah. Yeah, I'm not saying I would do it. I'm just saying that with all the other stuff that
[00:44:20] was going on. But as a business, why do I care about what you do personally, if you
[00:44:24] want to go somewhere else, if I can use a what's the last sale that we had in NBA, you can recall. The Suns? Something like four, two, four, five. Yeah. Four, two, four, five. Yeah, Brooklyn could go five and a half. Five and a half, five, six. Yeah.
[00:45:40] So I took a cool $5 billion and released the headache.
[00:45:46] Right. This is an explanation. I think it was Bart, because they had them all in boxes. Bart's got to just put his head down, like just shaking his head. He was wearing like a purple print suit. Like I have to admit, I'm no GM by any means, but that's the dumbest thing I ever heard. Well, that's why he doesn't have a job. He's worked for the Jets. You can be so inadequate and keep your job with the Jets.
[00:47:02] Look at Robert Soller and Zach Wilson and everybody else's.
[00:47:04] They had the offensive and the defensive rookie
[00:47:07] of the year last year and didn't play games, I know you can't replicate game speed and practice, but guys come back from injuries, suspensions, time off, getting traded, whatever the case may be. And they look like Baker Mayfield went everywhere
[00:48:20] and everywhere he looked,
[00:48:21] the way he looked like the Baker Mayfield,
[00:48:23] the good Baker Mayfield from Cleveland,
[00:48:26] no matter where he went, he there saying, get rid of Tua to bring in Michael Pinnix? That, Tana Bond's on ESPN on Get Up. The Tua Pinnix thing is very similar to the Caleb Williams, Justin Fields thing.
[00:49:47] Because they're both the same, both. year at ACL because he got hit low. It happens. If a guy's not, if he's pulling muscles, pulling hamstrings and he's like out of shape and that's why he's getting injured. But if you're getting hit by 300 pound dudes get hurt, I can't be like, oh, you shouldn't have. Yeah, we don't give you soft tissue around here. Yeah. Yeah, we're not doing that no more, no more shots. So, but if you look at, if you don't do that
[00:51:02] and you take a PENIX, you reset your cap,
[00:51:05] you can go out a little bit. I know it's not like a trendy pick but maybe you get Odell to come there because you can pay him a little. You know I'm just talking because I don't know what the list is. They don't know Michael Thomas. I mean like but you have that because you now you're resetting the QB market because not as if the current I think Chicago is going to be in a situation where either if they're smart, they'll take a reasonable roster building deal for Justin Fields. Couple of second round picks, maybe a third from a team like Atlanta,
[00:53:42] or you maybe shipping to the AFC,
[00:53:44] maybe a team like me saying you know, at, let's see, are they eight or nine? They're eight. Atlanta's at eight, yeah. Yeah, they're at eight. You got Minnesota at 11, Denver at 12,
[00:55:00] and Las Vegas at 13.
[00:55:03] So I would think one, Atlanta calls, I take that deal because I look at it like this. If Atlanta gives me eight and a first next year, like give me eight, a second this year and a first next year,
[00:56:23] right, and they go're down to eight. And you don't have a quarterback there, then you get the best player for whatever scheme you want to really- Right, and you can always trade back again too.
[00:57:41] Yeah, so like if you-
[00:57:44] Like if you like Ridde McArthy or something. on a defensive line between Chase Young, Gregory, Armstead and Bosa. You know, so like they have like that top talent because they're not paying the quarterback. Right. So you can look at, in New England, you can look at it that way, like, well, we'll just build our team to look like San Francisco East
[00:59:01] to where we just get as many defensive,
[00:59:04] you know, playmakers as we can, game champions.
[00:59:07] Yeah, they got some people they need to bring back that says I want to do this. You better not get in the quarterback. You better not get in the quarterback. Jacksonville is not getting in the quarterback. Cincinnati is not getting in the quarterback. The Rams, I could see Rams potentially getting a... Potentially getting a McCarthy if he's still there, just as a backup to staff. I don't know why you would do that.
[01:00:21] I could see Seattle maybe taking a quarterback.
[01:00:25] Not in the first round.
[01:00:26] You know, Gino's in that second year of that three-year deal. division. Right. Right. Like a guy who can just or healthy Kirk Cousins. I don't know if they are rookie quarterback especially at eight. No, no, no, no, no, no, no. And if they could get to two and I don't think I can't foresee Washington moving out of two. No. Best case scenario you can get to three. Uh and I mean some somebody might be able to
[01:01:45] strike luck with Arizona. You know, because or maybe Arizona's Marva Harris Jr. for the Falcons. I'm low key, low key good with bringing in, I don't want to say a girl, I'm trying to give me a name that's like. Well, I know Tannehill is- I was trying to squeeze Jamis out of New Orleans,
[01:03:03] a confident big arm guy, you got him big targets,
[01:03:06] you see what he did with- So he needs every bit of mobility. You see that thing that was on. All the guys are doing that now. Every bit of mobility got out of the way. But like, I don't know what Denver, like, I don't know, sometimes it feels like you're playing fantasy football, but it's like.
[01:04:20] Denver seems like the type that would like Bo Dix.
[01:04:26] That sounds like a spot on.
[01:04:27] But I think you have pieces to move.
[01:05:43] The Justin feels peace is going to be Jr.? That's what I thought the original plan was going to be once they got the little traffic. No, no, I know. I know. No, if they didn't, if they would have like they won, they won a game against Atlanta. Yeah. If they won two games after you and I had this conversation,
[01:07:00] like one of our conversations,
[01:07:02] they won like two out of three games.
[01:07:03] I'm like, they would, 235 pounds, that's sitting in the green room right now. If you can take him, you take him, you don't worry about the mistakes you made in the past, you take that guy. Right. Yeah, I love these scenarios. I'm just trying to figure out who is going to
[01:08:22] do it the worst.
[01:08:25] I'm trying to figure out like what could be
[01:08:26] the craziest thing that would happen. Like they got jail and high at last, jail and high at last year. You know, they still got Slayton. So I think you need that vet right now, like to solidify your receiving course. So I would go lineman and then get a receiver later. Like, you know, I- Tennessee. Tennessee probably goes lineman as well to protect Levis.
[01:09:41] Atlanta, no moves are made.
[01:09:44] I'm gonna say they go edge of some kind.
[01:09:47] Dallas Turner maybe. I think he wants to get rid of Russ, get assets, and then still bring an adequate QB. Right. Then you got the Raiders who are probably going to the back if they're still there. Quarterback? I don't know if they go quarterback. I think that's when the appears goes veteran. If they don't trade up, if they don't trade up,
[01:11:00] you know, like I said, it depends on what happens,
[01:11:02] obviously, prior to that.
[01:11:04] He recruited Jalen Daniels, so he has the relationship,
[01:11:07] the way that Clingsbury has the relationship he was in school and he just, I think that just made him better in that, in that environment at that level. Right. What's the boy named out of Liberty that went to yeah, he was being touted as the next whatever guy that people are sleeping on. And then Kenny Pickett was
[01:12:21] like the homegrown guy in pit. So they were selling us like a bag of goods on those three three. Okay. Yeah, you can sit around at 13 and hope he drops because the video of the people, the video of his former teammate shitting on him at his locker, that end of his self shows his maturity because he didn't, as far as Vito we saw, all he did was continue
[01:13:42] to pack his stuff up. Right. With the LSU couple of linebackers. He's like, we'll make him work. I'll teach them the scheme. They'll figure everything else out. Right. And then offensively they went got Sunu, Shannon,
[01:15:00] Matt Ryan MVP numbers, give me two running backs.
[01:15:04] Like they had was the boy named Austin Hooper. draft, you know, saying I'm ready for more Doc Rivers complaining, you know, I'm ready for, you know, NBA players to not load manage for the rest of the season since we're like under 30 games left. So, you know, baseball's coming up soon. You know, we're gonna have to play 20 out of 30. We're gonna we're gonna
[01:16:20] have to start previewing and talking about how Mike Trouting will make the
[01:16:23] playoffs again. You know, say 2024 is here. Y'all I guess what? Tony's not
