[00:01:34] [SPEAKER_03]: But it wouldn't be sports reporters' order if we didn't start it off with get it off my chest.

[00:01:46] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. Nice long weekend. Shout out to government work.

[00:01:52] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm saying, but yeah, speaking of work, I want to get the college football playoff committee a little credit.

[00:02:02] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't like 12. I know it's an even number. I didn't like the number when I first heard of four for the

[00:02:09] [SPEAKER_01]: college football playoff. I was like, that's not going to work because I knew off the rip.

[00:02:14] [SPEAKER_01]: We're going to get two SEC schools, a big 10 and then everybody else is fighting for four.

[00:02:20] [SPEAKER_01]: So then people saying eight, I'm like, all right, eight's a little better.

[00:02:23] [SPEAKER_01]: But I'm like, we got so many teams, you know, I think 16 would have just matched up better.

[00:02:29] [SPEAKER_01]: One versus, you know, like you don't mean conferences, whatever the case may be posties and conferences one versus

[00:02:35] [SPEAKER_01]: eight versus one narrow down that way. So they got 12.

[00:02:39] [SPEAKER_01]: So everyone hated the four last year, especially was the whole conundrum of like, do you let Texas and even though they lost

[00:02:46] [SPEAKER_01]: Oklahoma, but they beat Alabama, do you let them and then end up being for the state was odd man out.

[00:02:52] [SPEAKER_01]: They go to the bowl game, have their players don't play, they get slacked by like 75 points.

[00:03:00] [SPEAKER_01]: And it was tough, but they got beat by Georgia team that had been on the running up to like 30 or 40 games in a row winning

[00:03:07] [SPEAKER_01]: a couple of national championships. So like they were on there, they were on up and up, but once again, they were outside

[00:03:12] [SPEAKER_01]: of the fours who would get to 12 and for the state loses last week.

[00:03:16] [SPEAKER_03]: You know, they lose again too.

[00:03:19] [SPEAKER_01]: And so, you know, they lose so I want to give credit, believe it was Booker McFarland who said he was like the regular season

[00:03:26] [SPEAKER_01]: used to mean something. I don't like these 12 teams. There's too many teams.

[00:03:31] [SPEAKER_01]: And I'm looking at like, what do you want? Because if you think about a situation now a lot of these guys going to the draft

[00:03:37] [SPEAKER_01]: they're getting highlighted very early on their high school careers and the social media machine is driving it.

[00:03:44] [SPEAKER_01]: So a lot of players know I'm going to be a top 10 pick. I'm gonna be a first round pick.

[00:03:50] [SPEAKER_01]: And that talent in college football is man, I'm exposed and you want that entertainment. We need that entertainment piece.

[00:03:56] [SPEAKER_01]: Caleb Williams behind USC's offensive line last year in the college football playoff would have looked a lot better than they look in their bowl game

[00:04:06] [SPEAKER_01]: because he's a top talent. We take a guy like the guy of Arizona.

[00:04:12] [SPEAKER_01]: If the regular season, if they were in the running for the big 12 championship and they get an opportunity to maybe play for the national championship

[00:04:19] [SPEAKER_01]: he probably stays. But you know, in the old system they lose a couple of games by October.

[00:04:26] [SPEAKER_01]: He might shut it down for the season because look like he might be a top 10 pick a top five pick. You don't want to get hurt.

[00:04:31] [SPEAKER_01]: And that can happen everywhere. That can happen in every school.

[00:04:34] [SPEAKER_01]: But given 12 spots, as long as you can hover around 16 and make a late push, you can go from 16, 11 or 12 or something in that case.

[00:04:45] [SPEAKER_01]: And it's very similar to my playing argument. It's like it gives the player and the fan incentive and the product of the sport.

[00:04:55] [SPEAKER_01]: That FSU Georgia Bowl game was not aesthetically pleasing.

[00:05:01] [SPEAKER_01]: It's one thing if Georgia would have went out there and just dominated because they had more talent against the top talent, the FSU had.

[00:05:09] [SPEAKER_01]: But FSU talent didn't play.

[00:05:12] [SPEAKER_01]: So, Booger let them make it this way. 12 teams. We got a few years of it. Let it play out because we all know that the four was not sufficient.

[00:05:23] [SPEAKER_01]: The four was less than desirable. The four did not work because there was a team always left out.

[00:05:30] [SPEAKER_01]: At 12, listen. If you're 13, 14, 16, yeah, maybe you don't really deserve a shot.

[00:05:38] [SPEAKER_01]: But 12, top 12, the top 10% of the 134 schools. That makes sense to me.

[00:05:44] [SPEAKER_01]: Top 10% an opportunity to play for a championship. That makes sense to me.

[00:05:48] [SPEAKER_01]: So I figured keep giving that opportunity. We'll keep getting great games.

[00:05:53] [SPEAKER_01]: We won't get games with a bunch of guys who are ready to transfer. Florida State's probably looking like they might need another quarterback because the current quarterback isn't doing that well.

[00:06:02] [SPEAKER_01]: You got a guy that's had another school like, you know what? Maybe I'll set out and transfer to Florida State because it looks like DJ is not doing his job.

[00:06:09] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't want guys thinking like that in October, November.

[00:06:12] [SPEAKER_01]: But if guys are thinking like, hey, we beat Ole Miss next week, we're back in the running for this 12.

[00:06:18] [SPEAKER_01]: And now we're in the 12, 5 matchup. We can be whoever you know, like I need that kind of optimism versus like I'm shutting it down because I'm transferring schools because we have no shot with title because there's only four spots.

[00:06:32] [SPEAKER_03]: Right. That makes perfect absolute sense to me.

[00:06:37] [SPEAKER_03]: You know, so as I was sitting around watching college football this week, I thought about Jay Z for a second.

[00:06:51] [SPEAKER_03]: PSA allowed me to reintroduce myself.

[00:06:55] [SPEAKER_03]: So as I had that thought, I thought to myself, SEC, welcome to college football.

[00:07:03] [SPEAKER_03]: Welcome to what everyone else has been doing for the last 20 years or so.

[00:07:10] [SPEAKER_03]: While you were sitting up here playing these neutral site games like Georgia having neutral site games in the compressor, playing neutral site games at Jerry World.

[00:07:20] [SPEAKER_03]: Some of these other teams were actually going out on the road.

[00:07:23] [SPEAKER_03]: Some of these other teams were playing other teams at their places.

[00:07:27] [SPEAKER_03]: You know, you had teams like Florida State and LSU lock up last year.

[00:07:34] [SPEAKER_03]: And it made sense except for when they played each other the first time they played at the Superdome in the second time, they played in Orlando.

[00:07:42] [SPEAKER_03]: So as we look at these neutral site games, we go to Las Vegas, LSU and USC.

[00:07:51] [SPEAKER_03]: A lot of LSU fans out here are upset that they even had to play this game on the West Coast, that it was a neutral site game so on so forth.

[00:08:01] [SPEAKER_03]: And a wise man once told me it's no fun when the rabbit has the gun.

[00:08:07] [SPEAKER_03]: You know, nobody complained about neutral site games when they were playing in the sugar bowl down in Louisiana, the orange bowl down in Miami, the citrus bowl when it existed, the Capital One Bowl down in Tampa.

[00:08:21] [SPEAKER_03]: Cotton Bowl down in Jerry World.

[00:08:25] [SPEAKER_03]: You know, now all of a sudden so Tennessee on one hand while we're out here complaining was beating up on Chattanooga to the tune of 718.

[00:08:35] [SPEAKER_03]: Offensive yards Ole Miss did even better than that 772 against the mighty mighty Paladins affirm then you have Missouri with a 51 to nothing shut out.

[00:08:49] [SPEAKER_03]: Against Mary State you had all burn with a 73 to three win against Alabama and them and let me let you in on a secret.

[00:09:00] [SPEAKER_03]: North Dakota State and South Dakota State would have beat the shit out of all those teams I just named.

[00:09:06] [SPEAKER_03]: So while we were sitting out here myself included criticizing Colorado for struggling with North Dakota State.

[00:09:15] [SPEAKER_03]: Lo and behold, at least they played a team worth a damn.

[00:09:20] [SPEAKER_03]: So I'm sorry, LSU that you haven't won a game season opening since 2019.

[00:09:27] [SPEAKER_03]: I'm sorry that you decided to play Florida State instead of eating up on some cupcakes like Alabama did with my Western Kentucky Hill Toppers.

[00:09:36] [SPEAKER_03]: I'm sorry that you had to go to Las Vegas and get pushed around by the Trojans.

[00:09:44] [SPEAKER_03]: But all that said, welcome to college football.

[00:09:51] [SPEAKER_03]: So now we take it around the nation.

[00:09:54] [SPEAKER_03]: You know there was a lot of good football this weekend.

[00:09:58] [SPEAKER_01]: There were a lot of low outs as I alluded to 49 and zero Utah or Southern Utah but that was that right.

[00:10:04] [SPEAKER_03]: Right, right, right.

[00:10:06] [SPEAKER_03]: So we'll take it back.

[00:10:07] [SPEAKER_03]: We'll go back to Thursday.

[00:10:08] [SPEAKER_03]: We'll do this chronologically.

[00:10:09] [SPEAKER_03]: So let's start Mr. logical.

[00:10:12] [SPEAKER_03]: What were your thoughts after watching Colorado on Thursday?

[00:10:18] [SPEAKER_01]: Shador looks official.

[00:10:20] [SPEAKER_01]: And a couple of things I was thinking about this before you know we had our meeting.

[00:10:26] [SPEAKER_01]: I just like I've been playing this video game and I've been cussing at the TV saying there's no way that happens.

[00:10:34] [SPEAKER_01]: That's not real.

[00:10:35] [SPEAKER_01]: I can't believe this happens.

[00:10:36] [SPEAKER_01]: And then I watched Shador try to throw a slant pass that hits the defender's leg while he's on the ground.

[00:10:46] [SPEAKER_01]: House is in the air and gets intercepted in his own.

[00:10:49] [SPEAKER_01]: And I was like, oh, okay, that happens.

[00:10:52] [SPEAKER_01]: And then if I'm playing defense of the video game and I'm covering Travis Hunter and I got my arm around his neck.

[00:11:00] [SPEAKER_01]: He's not supposed to catch the ball one handed and then bobble and then catch it with two hands.

[00:11:04] [SPEAKER_01]: That happened in real life.

[00:11:07] [SPEAKER_01]: Another interception a guy from Robert Morris against Utah State when he caught it jumping in the air one handed looking opposite direction.

[00:11:16] [SPEAKER_01]: That happened.

[00:11:17] [SPEAKER_01]: So the game is pretty realistic.

[00:11:19] [SPEAKER_01]: But as far as the game Thursday, it was a great test.

[00:11:22] [SPEAKER_01]: I saw a video.

[00:11:24] [SPEAKER_01]: Bill Goldberg, the legendary wrestler, his son is on Colorado.

[00:11:30] [SPEAKER_01]: And pregame he was talking to his son and he said, this is not going to be a cakewalk by any means.

[00:11:35] [SPEAKER_01]: He was like, you need to be ready.

[00:11:38] [SPEAKER_01]: It's not going to be a cakewalk.

[00:11:40] [SPEAKER_01]: And it wasn't North Dakota State championship pedigree.

[00:11:45] [SPEAKER_01]: They recruit well.

[00:11:47] [SPEAKER_01]: They are probably the top.

[00:11:48] [SPEAKER_01]: They are the top dog in their avenue of college football.

[00:11:53] [SPEAKER_01]: So they were able to compete.

[00:11:55] [SPEAKER_01]: And we should do it through four times.

[00:11:57] [SPEAKER_01]: But that one interception was timely.

[00:11:58] [SPEAKER_01]: It was in the red zone, you know, that keeps that keeps them up.

[00:12:02] [SPEAKER_01]: They were up at halftime.

[00:12:04] [SPEAKER_01]: If it wasn't for that, like I believe it's like a 97 yard drive essentially to get Colorado inside the 10 so they can kick that field.

[00:12:12] [SPEAKER_01]: Well, they started inside their own five.

[00:12:15] [SPEAKER_01]: So you mean you play a little tighter defense here.

[00:12:17] [SPEAKER_01]: You're going into halftime of six versus up three.

[00:12:20] [SPEAKER_01]: But either way, you're still up.

[00:12:22] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, halftime.

[00:12:23] [SPEAKER_01]: So I think they show well.

[00:12:24] [SPEAKER_01]: Like you said, I think they probably would have beat a lot of other teams.

[00:12:28] [SPEAKER_01]: But like some argument when we talked about this in our pre-meeting, sometimes with college football it boils down to are you superior intellectually at your head coach and the staff?

[00:12:41] [SPEAKER_01]: But is your head coach head and shoulders above the guy he's coaching against?

[00:12:45] [SPEAKER_01]: I think Dion is kind of in that space as far as like his ability to just kind of galvanize people.

[00:12:50] [SPEAKER_01]: Do you have an ultimate playmaker at quarterback?

[00:12:55] [SPEAKER_01]: And do you have a dynamic player that just you put them out there and the, you know, shit just happens for you.

[00:13:02] [SPEAKER_01]: Colorado has that.

[00:13:03] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if every team has that.

[00:13:05] [SPEAKER_01]: You talked about LSU we'll get to that.

[00:13:07] [SPEAKER_01]: But I don't think every team has that piece.

[00:13:10] [SPEAKER_01]: And I think if you have that in college football, that gives you that's how you get that 90 yard drive to get a field go at the end of the half having those kind of players.

[00:13:19] [SPEAKER_01]: And that coaching like that coaching events, you know, Alabama's and remember Lou holds back in a day and even like the old Colorado teams like having that dynamic where you just have you have a piece that they don't have.

[00:13:33] [SPEAKER_01]: And I think Colorado had that against North Dakota State.

[00:13:37] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, so you know with Colorado I came into this season with some questions, you know, I still have the same questions.

[00:13:44] [SPEAKER_03]: Can they stop the money?

[00:13:45] [SPEAKER_03]: Can they run the ball?

[00:13:47] [SPEAKER_03]: You know, they brought in Hayden from Ohio State.

[00:13:51] [SPEAKER_03]: You know, Dallas Hayden and I was expecting him to come in.

[00:13:54] [SPEAKER_03]: It was just one game so I don't want to overreact.

[00:13:56] [SPEAKER_03]: I know that's the thing we do in the sports world nowadays is we overreact to everything.

[00:14:01] [SPEAKER_03]: I don't want to do that.

[00:14:03] [SPEAKER_03]: But 19 yards ain't going to cut it.

[00:14:05] [SPEAKER_03]: You know, you got to go to Lincoln this weekend for a night game against the corn huskers who are trying to use you to make a name for themselves because they haven't been to a bowl game since.

[00:14:16] [SPEAKER_03]: I think it was 2017.

[00:14:18] [SPEAKER_03]: So what I wanted to see is I wanted the end of the first quarter 21 to 7.

[00:14:24] [SPEAKER_03]: Now this is North Dakota State.

[00:14:26] [SPEAKER_03]: So I'm not even saying hey Colorado, you had to go win that game by 30.

[00:14:32] [SPEAKER_03]: You know, but for reference point, what's the difference between you and Oklahoma State?

[00:14:38] [SPEAKER_03]: Oklahoma State smacked around the Defending National Champion South Dakota State Jack Rabbits by 24 points.

[00:14:46] [SPEAKER_03]: You held on by five yards to their runner up.

[00:14:50] [SPEAKER_03]: You know, and it gets it gets creepy right because you start looking at the referees.

[00:14:56] [SPEAKER_03]: You start looking at things and you don't want to play that game.

[00:14:59] [SPEAKER_03]: You know, and then you and then you look at it and you say to yourself.

[00:15:04] [SPEAKER_03]: Well, there was a targeting that was missed on North Dakota State's last drive.

[00:15:09] [SPEAKER_03]: That would have made that last throw 15 yards closer, you know, because we know Cam Miller didn't have the arm to get it to the end zone.

[00:15:15] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, there was very short.

[00:15:18] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, there were five.

[00:15:19] [SPEAKER_00]: And they do still caught it and he still caught it.

[00:15:22] [SPEAKER_03]: And there were five seconds.

[00:15:23] [SPEAKER_03]: There were five seconds that ran off the clock that shouldn't have when the refs were spotting the ball a couple of plays prior.

[00:15:30] [SPEAKER_03]: So, you know, granted, there was also a targeting that was missed on North Dakota State on Shadour on the previous possession.

[00:15:38] [SPEAKER_03]: So that goes without saying yet.

[00:15:41] [SPEAKER_03]: I don't know if Shadour is the number one draft pick right now.

[00:15:44] [SPEAKER_03]: I think he has the ability to play himself into being the number one draft pick.

[00:15:49] [SPEAKER_03]: But as of right now, I wouldn't say he is.

[00:15:52] [SPEAKER_03]: But but I think he could end up that way.

[00:15:55] [SPEAKER_01]: But but you know, but I will say it was he might, I think he'll be the first quarterback.

[00:16:02] [SPEAKER_01]: I think the two teams that we're kind of projecting as potentially being the worst two teams and have number one pick are New England and Carolina potentially and I think they've already got their quarterback.

[00:16:15] [SPEAKER_01]: I think I think he's probably positioned himself to be the number one quarterback.

[00:16:23] [SPEAKER_01]: Definitely over Carson Beck.

[00:16:25] [SPEAKER_01]: I think if you had to choose.

[00:16:26] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, Carson Beck still can't throw it across the middle.

[00:16:29] [SPEAKER_03]: You know, that's going to be his Achilles heel if you will.

[00:16:33] [SPEAKER_03]: You know, I mean he's not quite DJ.

[00:16:35] [SPEAKER_03]: We I'm gonna lay lay but you know we'll you know we'll see if he can redeem himself in the rest of this game.

[00:16:40] [SPEAKER_03]: But but you know so when I look at Colorado, you know I also questioned their linebackers.

[00:16:45] [SPEAKER_03]: You know they just seem to get lost in space.

[00:16:48] [SPEAKER_03]: You know North Dakota State wasn't really doing anything as far as you know trick plays or just run a quarterback power.

[00:16:55] [SPEAKER_01]: Sorry, just was like yeah it was just working.

[00:16:57] [SPEAKER_03]: You know so that concerns heavy he's kind of like seven yards of running those quarterback power plays that concerns me when you have Utah on your schedule when you have Oklahoma State and Ollie Gordon on your schedule when you have Kansas State when you schedule when you have jail and Daniels in the J Hawks on your schedule that concerns me but alas it was just one game.

[00:18:15] [SPEAKER_01]: He's a breeze. Absolutely needs to 14 14s don't didn't get a transfer and you'll I'll tell you they are in a second but there wasn't enough transfers in this world that would have had them beat Georgia this weekend.

[00:19:27] [SPEAKER_01]: You're not going to public high schools getting your players because that's the way you used to do it.

[00:19:33] [SPEAKER_01]: When you and I were in high school.

[00:19:36] [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, we got a little something for the state when you and I are in high school.

[00:19:41] [SPEAKER_01]: Michael Vic got recruited out of the public high school my city.

[00:19:45] [SPEAKER_01]: Ronald Curry got recruited to North Carolina and UV out of the public high school my city.

[00:19:51] [SPEAKER_01]: Now to get recruited five star top recruits top schools you got to go to probably a private school or play at a private school play on some championship level.

[00:20:03] [SPEAKER_01]: National thing so it changed so he's out here acting as if that didn't change so your players that you're getting aren't even the old way you got it when you when he came out of school.

[00:20:13] [SPEAKER_01]: So now you got to get transfers you got to do it because four schools didn't get a transfer.

[00:20:19] [SPEAKER_01]: Army Navy Air Force Clemson.

[00:20:21] [SPEAKER_01]: Three of them have something in common and three of them have a reason they don't have transfers because there's an opposed college obligation established for those other three service academies.

[00:20:32] [SPEAKER_01]: Clemson, you try to win football games you need to get you guys that can help you win football games that simple.

[00:20:37] [SPEAKER_01]: Especially like I said I'm a harp on this all year long when you aren't dynamic at quarterback you need playmakers everywhere.

[00:20:46] [SPEAKER_01]: And they're not and it's like you can you can have any kind of feeling you want about it, but when it boils down to it.

[00:20:53] [SPEAKER_01]: It was 13 to three.
