So what stood out to you besides how ass the Falcons are?
[00:01:55] Listen, the defense was good, but it's, I think the Pittsburgh offense is mediocre at best. The Rams, I don't know if it was the flight. I thought the flight was a lot longer from California to Australia, but I believe it's only about 16 hours. For some reason in my mind, I had it, like, closer to 20 to 22 hours, which is substantial.
[00:02:20] 15, I've done 15-hour flights before, I've done 16, and it's, I'm pretty sure it's exhausting, but it's not, it's not 24 hours with a layover and all sorts of stuff. I thought it would be a little longer. Well, I think the issue was when they got there, yeah. Yeah, they got there later in the 49ers. Something about the NFC West, Cal Shanahan just has McVay's number.
[00:02:44] I don't know if he's too predictable or they just, they could just read them well or they just played so many games together. It's always a toss-up. That really stood out. I'm going to say the Atlanta's defense without, with the suspension and the injury to the guys who were leading the pass rush effort last year, and even the guys that left free agency, I thought they looked really good against Pittsburgh.
[00:03:12] But again, I still feel Pittsburgh is a top, is like a 20 to 24 ranked offense. I think that's what they're going to end up being throughout this year. I don't think they really have any one dynamic. DK Metcalf should be. Michael Pittman should be. I still feel like it marries well. But for week one, it looked really good. Philly's defense looked really good.
[00:03:37] But Washington somehow still was like moving the ball and Jay Daniels were really good. Part of a champion. So, but the Phillies' defense looked good. I feel like Washington's defense looked really good. Sonny Stiles, when he struck Saquon, so they squashed 600 pounds. Yeah, hey, you know, my first thought about that, I was like, yo, I was like, that's the Kobe stopper right there. You know what I'm saying? I just hope he don't end up like Reuben Patterson.
[00:04:04] Yeah, it was because like to run through and to get jail. Those are, you know, strong guys to get through and take them both on that quickly right off the snap. That was impressive. Bold Knicks looked like what I said bold Knicks would look like. And the Chiefs looked like what I said they would look like. I'm saying I got a few things right this weekend. I got some things way wrong.
[00:04:33] But, yeah, those are the things that really stood out to me. Yes, they do. You know, we'll get to that in a second. So, for me, you know, so back to the Rams for a quick second. You know, the way that I understand it is San Francisco got there, you know, about a week early or close to a week early. And the Rams got there literally the day before the game. And that's something that McVay has done in their previous international games, you know. But they were only going to England.
[00:05:02] And, you know, he was 4-1 in those games. Did they play one year in Mexico? Or was that San Francisco going to play in Mexico? I believe it was San Francisco. Yeah, they played in Raiders. Yeah, they played in Raiders. But, you know, so I think the Rams were just doomed. Topple that with – and I know it's a long season, right? But Stafford's another year older. You know what I mean? Like, Miles Garrett was obviously injured. And he's on IR now. So, I just think there's a lot, you know, philosophy-wise that the Rams need.
[00:05:30] Because these teams, like even Buffalo – I guess I'll start there. Even with Buffalo, right? Like, they finally exercised their demon. They got the Houston monkey off their back. But James Cook still didn't get the ball enough. You know, he still didn't get as many carries as I would have liked to have seen. You know, but at the same time, C.J. Stroud looked a lot better starting out. But I got my questions about Buffalo's defense.
[00:05:58] So, I don't necessarily know what to take away from that. But what I do know is that I like the Texans going forward. Because now they actually have a running back that they can trust. A consistent cowbell back. Like David Montgomery. That can get in the end zone. That can break tackles. That can do all the things that you want your running back to do. But Dallas. Dallas. So, Dallas went to New York or New Jersey. Played the Giants.
[00:06:30] And there were five possessions in the second half. There were five total possessions in the second half. Because every time the Giants got the ball, they just sat on it. And then they would go score at the end of it. You know what I mean? Like, they would just hold. Like, I swear the Giants had the ball for probably about ten minutes of the third quarter. Man, I was playing a dude in Madden earlier. And he did that.
[00:07:00] It's so frustrating. You just kept running the same play. And so did the Giants. It was pissing you off. Because it's like, now I got to keep calling the same play and try to stop it. It was so annoying. But yeah. Just killing the clock. Like, if you. Watching that game, you would have thought. Watching that game, you would have thought. Scadaboo had about 150 yards with the time of possession that the Giants had. He had 81 yards. You know what I mean? And on top of that, Dallas just couldn't get off the field. You know what I mean?
[00:07:30] They just couldn't get off the field. And, you know, so when they got the ball, they had to make it work. They had to get points. It almost reminded me, and this is obviously to a way lesser degree, but it reminded me of a playoff game where the Jacksonville Jaguars played the Patriots. And David Garrard was the quarterback for Jacksonville. And the final score was 28-24. And Jacksonville would hold the ball for like seven minutes of the quarter, and the Patriots would go score in four or five plays.
[00:07:59] And then they ended up winning the game because they couldn't stop them. But Dallas, you know, Iberfluss is gone. You know, Christian Parker is the new DC, you know. But I didn't see, not that I'm a savant, if you will, but I didn't see much different defensively than I saw last year. Like, it looked like a lot of the same concepts. It looked like, you know, but just with different players. And what I saw was missed assignments.
[00:08:27] And, you know, and then on top of De'Von Bland, like, I don't know what happened to that. I mean, he was just a pick six monster his rookie year. But since then, he's been average. You know what I mean? But the Giants back to the, they were running the same play. There were like three or four plays in a row where he literally, Jackson Dart stepped back and just tossed it over to the back. And they would just get eight yards. It's just like, what are you doing? Like, somebody, why has nobody got that assignment?
[00:08:56] Dallas needs, this is a stretch because the argument is that he might be, he might go in the Hall of Fame as one of the greatest defensive coordinators in Spagnola. Right. They need a guy that his staple is defense and what he does defensively travels. Remember how Dick LeBeau, Manny Kiffin, like some of these legendary guys,
[00:09:25] even Bill Belichick to a certain degree. It's not about the players you have. It's like, yo, my scheme, I have sections of this play calling sheet that stops this many different types of plays if you just get to your spot. If you're in the middle linebacker, we call Tampa T, Tampa 2, you just got to get depth. You guys get out to the flat. You guys cover here.
[00:09:55] Push forward, you know, keep the quarterback in the pocket. We'll get a sack or incomplete pass. I think Dallas, because they're constantly changing over key pieces of their staff, that there's no real continuity in scheme. Like, I don't know if the scheme matches the players because you're trying to work a new scheme in all the time. And it takes a while.
[00:10:21] The bonus is Jerry spares no expense when it comes to talent. He's been like effed them picks over the last few years. So I think they'll get it figured out because the offense will come. And this happens every year. And I've wrote it down to make sure I brought this up. All of you color commentators and pundits, we know it's week one. We know those guys didn't play a lot in the preseason. And fine. You don't have to keep making excuses for them.
[00:10:51] There are already three quarters into this game. You should be able to make a tackle in space. You should know what the other team is doing. Like, I don't. It's football. If you're not a rookie. Matter of fact, if it's not your first time ever playing football, you can't keep using that excuse the whole game. Because Chicago put up 59 points. And Carolina put up 37. Yeah, I was going to bring that up. You know what I mean? Like, it was. Some teams figured it out. Minnesota put up 39 points with a backup quarterback.
[00:11:20] Seattle won at home with a backup quarterback when they started with on the first drive. And got like three turnovers. So it's like, you can figure it out. And I think just when it comes to Dallas, I think they'll figure it out because they just have. They have talent in abundance. But if they don't figure it out soon, the wheels can fall off because you're going to look around and say, we have all this talent. How come we're not getting wins? Then I think it's the selfishness. Well, you know, I don't want to go hyperbole style. You know what I mean?
[00:11:50] But they're playing Washington this weekend. You know, like this is kind of an elimination game in a lot of ways. You know what I mean? Because the loser of this is not only 0-2. You're 0-2 in the division. You know, so that's a hard eight ball to get behind, you know, to come back from. So, you know, and, you know, for Washington's sake, they play Philly again in about week eight or so. But they play the Giants before that. So they got to get this game this weekend. But, you know, to the Bears, let's talk about them.
[00:12:18] You know, they ran for 291 yards. And I got to figure out what movie this is from because I say it all the time. But it was the best of times. It was the worst of times, you know, because that offense put up 59 points. But that defense had Bryce Young looking like Caleb Williams at times during that game. And, you know, this is a song. Oh, okay. I say it a lot, and I don't know where I got it from. But blueprint too. Best of times, worst of times.
[00:12:48] Well, no, no. It's before that. It's like a white girl. It's way before that. But stop trying to give Jay-Z credit for everything. But, you know, but Carolina finished 27th last year in total yards in offense last year. You know what I mean? And they came out game one because I talked about the Bears secondary and how I was concerned. Bryce Young averages 180 yards per game in his career before that game.
[00:13:16] He threw for double that. You know what I'm saying? So if Carolina had any defense, this could have been an interesting game. But, you know, also, I want to give a shout out to Jordan Love because that's one tough dude because he was getting knocked all around. Like Minnesota literally spent half the game trying to knock down the dam. And then eventually it crumbled. You know what I'm saying? It just crumbled.
[00:13:42] And every time you looked up, somebody was in Jordan Love's face. You know, Green Bay is going to have a long year, I think. But this weekend, Mr. Logical, Green Bay plays. My J-E-T-S. The Jetropolitans. So, look. The Jets, right? You got to take the wins where you can get them. They still didn't get an interception. You know what I mean?
[00:14:06] But they beat a team and dominated from start to finish. That's big for a team like that. You know what I mean? And the Jets, like I mentioned in our preview. It is. You know what I'm saying? Sometimes. No, it is. But what I'm saying, though, is if they would have won that game 17-13 and it was up and down close throughout, you question yourself, like, damn, we still down here with them?
[00:14:35] But they dominated. When was the last time the Jets dominated somebody whistle to whistle? Yeah, but I think the Jets all played teams that were better than them. No, definitely, definitely. And the reason the Jets were dominated last year is because they were getting the net play from the quarterback position. Mike, I know you're going to chime in here. You love Justin Fields. But you can't be in the second half three for 12 for 36 yards.
[00:15:04] Like, that's what kind of play they were getting out of Justin Fields. And that's what Tennessee is getting out of Cam Ward. So I would take it with if people, like, I look at it like this. If I'm on the coaching staff and I wanted individual, I wanted to see individual players do certain things like hustle to the ball, game tackle, no mistakes on special teams, no misblocking assignments.
[00:15:33] I want to be disrespectful to Tennessee because they are an NFL team. But I would have treated it like a more physical joint practice because Tennessee has nothing for the opposing team. If you can't get it right at the quarterback position, if you can't make magic from the pocket, and I get that people are enamored with the quarterback and he gets too much credit and he gets too much blame, but you still have to provide your percentage of the group project.
[00:16:02] And I think Cam Ward just consistently just kind of doesn't hold up his end. Well, see, that was my concern with him coming into the NFL is that he can make the spectacular play. He can't make the regular play, you know, or he turns every play into a spectacular play. Like, I know, you know, Donovan McNabb, you know, back in the day, he had Deshaun Jackson.
[00:16:24] So the playbook was basically five to seven step drop, wait for Deshaun, hurl it. But if Deshaun can't get open or if he gets jammed at the line, you get hit. And, you know what I'm saying? So Cam Ward in college, you know, he would always dance from side to side, keep the play alive for five, six seconds just doing that. And eventually you played with Miami. You're faster than everybody. Somebody's going to get open. This is the NFL. It doesn't work the same.
[00:16:52] His confidence, his confidence at Miami didn't translate to the NFL. Unfortunately, losing your first coach, what, two thirds away into your rookie season. And that was an offensive coach. Offensive coach bringing it. So I'm not, I'm not throwing in a towel on him, but there definitely is going to be groin pains. I think the only concession that you can probably look at, granted, I'm not,
[00:17:22] What up, Briz? I'm not celebrating across the entire season. See, I'm glad that Briz is here too. He should get an entire season with this coaching staff and probably all of next season as well. So if he has, if he, if he does have, if he's not at his ceiling and he, and he does have room to grow, he's going to get, um, no such thing. He's going to get his opportunity. But unfortunately,
[00:17:51] the Jets need to create turnovers. The Jets need to create sacks. They need to, they need to create, they need to, they need to do things that will, that can use against other teams. Measuring your season up against whatever you got from Tennessee, I think it'll set you up for. No, that's not what I said. Yeah. You, you, you, you, you, you adding all this. No, no, no, no, no. I didn't say all that. No, no, no. I'm like, I'm even talking about from a confidence standpoint, I wouldn't even, I would just take that.
[00:18:19] And I'd be, I would look at the individual players who made, who made, who made, who made, who made their, uh, their claims and then see what can you do? Well, no, I'm just saying, and I don't want to, obviously we're not going to stay on this too long, but you know, yeah, they play Green Bay this week. We always do. I know. They play Green Bay this week. You know what I mean? I'm looking at my lips if I'm the Jets because the Jets now can play in the trenches. But what I was trying to say was, you know, as you're taking over a team, a bad team, a culture,
[00:18:48] you know, you have to start somewhere. And that building block is, this is a team that's one of the worst teams in the league. We are one of the worst teams in the league too, but we think that we're improved. We dominated that team whistle to whistle. That's progress. But, you know, but at the same time, um, with the, what I was going to bring up was I never thought of Robert Sala as a masochist.
[00:19:16] Like what kind of dude, what kind of dude takes the Jets job and then comes back and takes this job? You know what I mean? Like, like, you don't say you, you were out there in San Francisco leading that defense, you know, like get it back this year, you know, and you could have got a better job next year. You didn't have to take this job because I don't know because, because like with a guy like Cam Ward, and I'm glad he brought in Dayball, right? Dayball's known. How old is Robert Sala though? Like if you had to guess by the way.
[00:19:45] He old enough to know better. That's how old he is. This is something I learned as I, as I turned to, you know, my 45th trip around the sun. Okay. So a few days ago, you think about guys like, like we'll use SPACs for example.
[00:20:07] After the, that the, the, the success Kansas City had early on in that wave, all those coaches on the staff for the most part, reach for the stars. They tried to go get the head coaching job. They tried a college route. They tried this route. They tried to be president of another team. Everybody tries SPACs. Like, listen, I've already done it. There's no glory in that. It's maybe it's a disconnect from what he really wants to do. Like, you know what?
[00:20:36] I'm going to stay here and I'm going to coach this defense up. I'm going to be the best at this. I think Robert Sala is like feeling I can do better. And the way I'm going to prove I'm better is to take this, this broken down Trans-An that we found in the garage during an estate sale and turn it into a race car. And it's like, you don't need to do that dog.
[00:21:01] You can just go get a nice minivan and clean it up and keep it clean and keep it moving. And just do what K, what Casey's doing is like, keep their, keep their core. I think that that's part of it. I don't know why you want to go to that, these extreme lengths, but, you know, to each his own. So what was confusing to me is, you know, we did our AFC North preview a couple of weeks ago. And I was talking about all the changes that Cincinnati made.
[00:21:27] On Sunday, each one of their players that they picked up made a play that turned that game. But the problem is, the problem that I have, and they play Houston this weekend, so we'll see how that goes. But, you know, but it's one of those things where you're forcing turnovers. But Tampa's still moving the ball up and down the field on you. And you only won by six points, even though you forced four turnovers and only had one yourself. You won that game by six points.
[00:21:55] Now, I can't talk Florida State fan. We couldn't win with four turnovers. But you won the game, but I don't know if I feel good about that if I'm Cincinnati, outside of the fact that, hey, we forced turnovers. Forced turnovers, you scored 24 first half points. And then the thing that's had you snakebitten for the past few seasons are injuries to key players and defensive lapses. You didn't have either one of those.
[00:22:25] So you go back into that locker room, and you feel like, you know what? We did what we do offensively. We are a point-scoring team. These pieces that we brought in all made plays. And you can rest on that. You know, I got to shout out my son's team. They played an exhilarating game last Thursday, 43-42. 43-42.
[00:22:56] And down the stretch, our seniors and our junior players. One kid was on the bench the whole second half. Bench because he wouldn't stop arguing. The other team's moving the ball down the field. We're moving up and down the field. It was like a college line. Like, the quarterbacks combined for, like, 500 yards passing in a high school game. It's crazy. Oh, so this is Baker and Mahomes, huh? Oh, yeah. It was nuts. It was nuts. So, but a kid was on the bench, senior, got benched for his attitude.
[00:23:25] They needed him on a two-point conversion after a holding call, brought it back to the 13. Hey, we need to stop. He comes out there, one play to make, and he makes that play. Everybody's making plays, but when your key players can come in in these moments, so your key additions make plays, your key players come in. Shout out to Josh Madman Milton. Came in with the spin move, rushed the pass, deflected out of bounds. You know, so it's like you need these kind of games. You're not, like, it's an NFL game. We talk about the spreads.
[00:23:55] A spread of six and a half that Vegas feels like that's a blowout. So winning a game by six if you score 24 first half points, I think Cincinnati's on good. The problem for Cincinnati is that are you going to have all your horses week eight through the rest of the season? And are you going to have your defense playing smart second half football and not collapsing in the fourth quarter?
[00:24:20] And see, and this is what we were talking about with Baker, you know, when we did our NFC South preview is, you know, is he going to be reckless? Is he going to be trying to make the big play? Is he going to be trying to do everything? You know, but we'll see. But answer me this. When the hell did Tyler Shupp become Joe Montana? And when the hell did the Saints score 30 points? Because I was watching that game. The Saints had no points at halftime.
[00:24:47] They were the last team on the whole Sunday, you know, to get a point. Yeah, they were the last team that scored, you know, in that early window. And then, like, I went to the grocery store. I had my phone on me watching Red Zone, you know, saying it. Then I looked up and the Saints had, like, 21 points. And I said, hold up, wait. So when you sent that text, I had gotten in a car.
[00:25:16] I was driving. I had like a 40. I had a 40, like a 40, 45 minute drive where I was going. So you sent that. I was like, damn, at least they're not. At least Atlanta's not doing as bad as the Saints. This is what I thought to myself. I get in the car. We get to the house. We had, like, a little dinner for me, early dinner. So I'm watching the rest of the Falcons-Steelers game. It ends. Then they go to bonus coverage. And I was like, bonus? Like 24-24? I was like, wait, hold on.
[00:25:46] When that happened? Because I just sat down on the couch. I had cracked two beers. I was chilling. And then I looked at the game. And they did it. When they went to overtime, I really was hoping. I'm not. Just for dramatic. As they should. Because they're bums. I wanted the field goal to go through just because it was a long field goal. Because I'm not a hater. I like good football. I like dramatics. I thought the kick was going to go through.
[00:26:12] And then I'm glad they did what San Francisco didn't do in the Super Bowl. How about your boy Rez? And play defense first. And then see what you needed. But Detroit played that two-point conversion well. I was going to ask you about that. Do you agree with the two-point conversion call? Absolutely. Okay. Absolutely. 100%. All right. No need for argument, Ben, because I agree, too. Yeah. I think every single team should do that.
[00:26:39] Especially since they changed the rules to make sure Josh Allen made it to the Super Bowl by adding all this stuff in the regular season. It's not going to come to fruition. But they added it. I think every single team is going to play the way. I can't imagine. I can't imagine a team just kicking an extra point to tie the game. I don't know. For me, it's a little more team dependent. You know what I mean? Like with the Saints, they were playing with house money. They weren't even supposed to make it that far. You know what I mean? In that game.
[00:27:09] You know what I mean? I'm with it. But, you know. Oh, Richie, he doesn't like the OT. No, he said he doesn't hate it. He doesn't hate the goal. Oh, yeah. Okay. But, okay. So, you know we got to ask the question. You ready? Let's hear it. Yeah. Why the hell ain't nobody talking about Justin Herbert? Because there's no conversation. There is a conversation.
[00:27:39] This is what I think. I think because he relates as far as physically and the arm talent. I think he's comparable to Trevor Lawrence. I think he's comparable to, you know, your top 10 quarterbacks in the league. I think he has the capability to produce that much.
[00:28:07] I don't think that many people really believe it. See what I mean? It's like. I think the opposite. I don't think that many people really believe in Justin Herbert. I think people put Justin Herbert on a pedestal. And that's why they remain quiet when it doesn't work out. I like personally. And I could be wrong. I think they kind of mix him in with the. I think they try to get him into that elite group.
[00:28:36] But the people who really. I like the real elite group. The Burroughs. The Mahomes. Josh Allens. I don't think there's many people who are. Believe he's on that. That. That's. Well, you remember. We had. Remember, you called me. At like nine o'clock on a Wednesday night. About three, four years ago. Might have even been before we started. Sports Reports is ordered. And you were like. Why the hell does this magazine have? Justin Herbert over Patrick Mahomes. You don't remember that?
[00:29:06] Yeah. Because. But that's what I'm saying. I don't think they do that anymore. Oh, not Brock Asswater. That's what I'm saying. Like. I think that was the. I think that was what people were trying to do. It's like a vacation spot. Everyone probably hypes up this vacation. Yo, everybody. You got to go to Key West. You got to go to Key West. And then. A few people, you know. When a few years ago. And you like. Now I'm going to Mexico. And people are just going. And going to these other places.
[00:29:35] I don't think Justin Herbert. Is really being mentioned. In these spaces. Because you don't have a real argument. To keep putting them in there. You have the year. I think the. The. I think it's kind of residual. From two or three years ago. Where people thought. He was going to be next. And when Jim Harbaugh got there. Oh. He's definitely going to be next. But since it hasn't happened. It's like. And I mean. It's like. I don't feel. I don't feel like he's in that. That conversation. And I don't know how many.
[00:30:04] Pundits really truly are putting him in that. That conversation. Well shout out to the Cardinals anyway. For winning that game. And you know. Like. Could we be in a world where the Cardinals. Go 2-0. To get Seattle and Drew Locke. Coming in this weekend. That would be a fun. Yo. Did you see. Did you see. Did you see. Did you see the play. Where Arizona blitz. Three guys off the right side of their defense. And the dudes were blocking one dude. Three guys were blocking one guy.
[00:30:34] And two guys hit Justin. And he just kind of. He was sitting on his ass. With the ball in his hand. Like. That's. Like. This is true. He is named the top 10 quarterback. On an annual basis. You know. And sometimes higher than 10. Like. People have him rank higher than Dylan Hurts. Half the time. He. No. He has the characteristics that they like. Yes. He's tall. He's got the strong arm. But he don't have. Personality. The game. Like. The game stuff. That's what I'm saying. In between the 20s. Yeah. That's what I don't.
[00:31:04] That's what I don't believe people. He's put there. Because he fits. But the argument for him. Doesn't happen. Because there's no. Evidence to support your argument. He just. Placed there. Because he fits. He just fits. Oh yeah. He. Yeah. He definitely. Because he looks the part. But then. When it starts to fall apart. You just skip over him. And you focus on the real. Top six guys. In the league. Oh.
[00:31:33] That's why. And Madison Beer. Don't hurt either. But you know. But what's funny about that is. Talking about skipping over things. Yeah. Rens. He fits the description. But like I said. You're not going to argue for him. Because none of the evidence. Is to support your argument. It just sounds good in the beginning. So. We can't skip over the Browns. Can we?
[00:32:04] The Browns. Like. You know. Like listen. I know people don't like Colin Godherd. I like him. He's one of my. You know. Favorite guys. He always gives me like a little quote. But the Browns. But the Browns. Are acting as if. We don't see their flaws. And that's the problem that I have with some of these bad teams. Because his argument is like. He's like. You shouldn't be a bad NFL team. For. Like consecutive years.
[00:32:33] You can go on ways. If you sign a bad contract. Maybe it doesn't work out. It can. It should be ebbs and flows. But this should be years. Where you're. Four and 13. Five and 12. You get enough picks. You make enough trades. And you get to. Nine and eight. Maybe 10 and seven. You pay the wrong guys. Because you're a bad organization. It's going to come back down. But. The ebbs and flows of the NFL. It's. You should be better.
[00:33:03] For a short amount of time. Because of the way that the draft capital. The drafting. The way teams give away the good teams. Like the Rams. And Baltimore. And Dallas. And those are the top tier teams. Traditionally. Give up their picks. To get your best defensive player. Your best offensive lineman. Mid-season. Things like that. You should be able to turn it around. For at least two or three years. Cleveland hasn't done that. Because I don't know who they listen to. I don't know who advises them.
[00:33:32] Deshaun Watson should not have been. Started. They should just go ahead and look at it. Like listen. This team is worth. 3.2 billion dollars. We owe this guy. 0.2 of that 3 billion. Let's just go. And be worth 3 billion. Give him his money. And go about our way. And let Shador sell out stadiums and jerseys. And get us on TV. And we'll live and die. With whatever he can give us. It's like.
[00:34:02] Someone needs to tell them. That money is not as important. As you go out here. Putting this terrible product on TV. So. Um. 23 carries. 173 yards. Who am I? I don't know what you advise it. Before I warn you. Yeah. Hold. That's twice. That's enough riding for the night. 23 carries. 173 yards. Who am I?
[00:34:30] I am the Super Bowl MVP. You are the Super. Oh. No. The correct answer is actually. It damn sure ain't Pacheco. But. Yes. Now we're not doing that at the Jersey. We're not doing that at the Jersey. We're not doing that at the Jersey. You know what I mean? That boy got. Yes. Pacheco got two rings. The answer is. Kenneth. Well. Somebody had to like massage everybody. You know what I'm saying? But. You know. So the Chiefs.
[00:35:01] The rumors of their demise were premature. I guess. I miss. I miss a lot. So. Like all these shows over these years. I've missed. But when it was coming to fruition. When I was watching the game last night. I was like. Man. I can't wait to get on with Mike. To be like. Listen. See what I told you. The old. The old. Linebackers. And the old defensive lineman. With the old coach. Got the young guys in place. The passing game. Still needs work.
[00:35:30] Xavier Worthy. Just needs. They. Yo. Thornton is. I don't know. So much. And Mahomes does not get it to him. What up Mike? Someone's going to have to. Whisper in his ear. Like listen dog. We're going to put Xavier in the slot. And have him run out. Routes. And. Post corners. And. Go routes. Like. Deep seam routes. Because like. The interception that Mahomes threw.
[00:36:00] I think a wide receiver like. Devontae Smith knows. Oh. This is single high safety. Pause. If I come across his face. I'm going to be wide open. Why don't his receivers know that? Because. I'm not sure. They play with him. They play for Andy Reid. Like. Well. Now. If you think about it. If you're Xavier Worthy. What's he? 175 right now.
[00:36:30] 180. If I catch this dig route. I might get dug into the dirt. And I don't want to do that. But I could run past this guy. And maybe that's where they need to put him in a position. Is aware. Like. Bill Belichick. Don't tell me the guy can't do. Tell me what he can do. I don't think he can run any route. Where contact is imminent. At high speed. I think. Getting him on the edge. RPOs. Drag routes. Go routes.
[00:37:00] Routes where he's running. Deep crossers. I think that's his wheelhouse. They have to figure out a way of like. Distorting the guy. Or do we need to look around. The league. And see. What team. Has a disgruntled guy. Who could be. You know. Like. Why be a Xavier Worthy. When you could be a Zay Flowers. But. But anyway. Yeah. But Thornton is open so much. Like. Like. Just watching the game. He's.
[00:37:30] He's open. And Mahomes just never. Throws it there. And then. Oh. How about my rookie from Nebraska though. Emmitt Johnson. Go Huskers. But. What I saw last night. Was a team that. Was just. Not tackling. And. Also on top of that. Now. Do you believe that Sean Payton's not calling plays? Oh. Listen. That's another thing I look for. So. I turned the game on. I'm watching the game. Because I had class last night. And I'm watching the game on the way back.
[00:38:00] And. I'm looking at the score. And I told you. Sean Payton was going to click the microphone. They didn't like the play call. So they were talking about. Davis Webb and his play calling. And. Sean Payton's probably like. He's coached enough years in this league. There was like. You know what. Let this guy. Go with it. I got the talent. It's just not working. I don't think Sean Payton's a guy that's going to panic.
[00:38:29] I don't think he's going to take over play calling. Not after 0-1. Not 0-1. If they. They got Jacksonville this week. If they win next week. 13-10. Because the defense. You know. Goes through nothing but tackling drills. From Wednesday to Friday. Or Tuesday to Friday. However they. Determine how they're going to practice. And they win the game 13-10. And the play calling is abysmal. That may be an unattainant. But I think as a.
[00:38:58] I think as a season coach. A guy that's locked in. A guy that's rumored. Because I don't think we still know what he's getting paid. Probably close to 20 million dollars a year. I think he's willing to be like. You know what. We have the talent on the field. I'm going to let you figure it out. Because you. You need. You're going to need him to be. You're going to need Davis Webb to be able to do that. I think last night. The Kansas City defense just might be better. Than people think. Because where their.
[00:39:28] Leadership is. Their leadership is defensive line. Linebacker. And. And coordinator. That's a lot of pieces to court. So I'm about to say something. And I don't want it. To sound like an excuse. So I'm just putting that disclaimer out there. You know what I mean. And so. Obviously Mahomes had on the big ass brace last night. Correct. You know. And you know. Bo Nix. You know. Broke his ankle.
[00:39:56] And that's why he couldn't play in the AFC championship game. And this is his first real action. You know what I mean. So like. I don't know. Just throwing that out there. I don't know. But they do play Jacksonville this weekend. Denver ain't going to beat nobody. If they can't run the ball. Which they still couldn't do last night. I think Kansas City. You know. Their defense might be a little better. They ran. They had five. Five yards to carry. They just didn't have opportunity. Because they didn't score. They score after that interception.
[00:40:26] The score is 21-14. Different ball game. Only getting a field goal out of that. Because of the. Somebody blamed it. Like Tom. Troy Aikman blamed it on the humidity. The ball slipping out of Bo Nix's hand. It's so human. That sounds like one of them Justin Herbert excuses. Don't it? Listen. AFC West has got plenty of excuses. But you know. So I don't know if Kansas City's defense is for real. That good. As they played last night. They did play great last night.
[00:40:55] Don't want to take nothing away from them. Mansour Delane got a pick off of Bo Nix. You know. But at the same time. Like I said. Like it's game one. You know. Let's slow down a little bit. So I'll ask you. You know. As we conclude our NFL. They'll talk here. What are some teams. That you feel. Are either. Week one. That is who that team is. Or week one. Man don't worry about that. We'll live another day.
[00:41:26] All right. How many? Just whatever. Whatever. Whatever comes to mind. Let's go five. You don't have the. Okay. Whatever comes to mind. I'm going to say Baltimore. Just Derrick Henry. Making a strong Hall of Fame case. I think he might be. Hey. Adrian Peterson. I think it's a lot. He is. And I think. Derrick Henry's next. People are going to say Chris McCaffrey. McCaffrey doesn't have the. The numbers because of the injuries.
[00:41:56] He looks. The part. But I think Derrick Henry being. Tied with Eric Dickerson on this list. And close to Walter Payton on this list. Well actually next week. He's going to pass Eric Dickerson. On the all time rushing list. And he. And he tied. Or he passed Marcus Allen yesterday. Or Sunday. For third all time in rushing touchdowns. But it's like two touchdown games. 100 yard. Two touchdowns. Like all these. These. These. These rushing. Accolades. I think he's close. Uh.
[00:42:25] I think. Cleveland is who they are. I don't think they can improve. I think Kansas City. I think the 49ers. Um. You happy Riz? I think. I think. This. I think Atlanta is going to play that way defensively. And because they can't get the play out of the quarterback. It's good.
[00:42:55] Because what Atlanta does is like. An inverse of what most other teams do. Atlanta has. Great play. And great playmakers. From the linebacking group. Through the secondary. And those guys fly downhill. The problem is. Every situation. You can't fly downhill. With your linebackers. And your defensive backs. You got to make plays.
[00:43:24] At the line of scrimmage. With your. Defensive line. And the fact that the. Offense. Will not move the ball. It's only so many times. You can give the ball. To B. John Robinson. Like. They're going to pick up on the fact. That it's. Drake London. And Zachariah Branch. To the left. And. B. John. Okay. The screen pass is going over here. And these two guys are black. And for B. John. It's very clear.
[00:43:54] So. So. Derek Henry could pass. Eric Dickerson on this list next week. You know. For ninth all time. Jerome Bettis. Is only a few hundred yards ahead of that. So that's what I was saying. By the end of this year. He could legit be top five. He needs. He's a thousand. Thousand to pass Curtis Martin. Essentially. Give or take. By 900 something. 938. 9. 939. Uh. Great.
[00:44:25] Yeah. Like I said. I think he's. Him between Peterson. We always talked about Frank Gore. But we talked about his touchdown production. I think Peterson is probably a Hall of Fame running back. And then Derek Henry is probably your last guy. Because they don't run the ball enough. Until Jameer Gibbs. But you know. Jameer Gibbs by the way. Third person in NFL history. To score 50 touchdowns in their first 50 games.
[00:44:54] Take that Reggie Bush. All right. So. I don't know. So for me. For me. You know. Teams that I think are. What they are. Washington. I think Washington is a team that's. Right there. Not quite good enough. Like. They can. They can play with most teams. They can. You know. Tyler Owens. Oh my goodness. Like. That dude just came out of the cannon on that special teams play. And just knocked everybody around.
[00:45:24] You know what I mean? But I just think that. That play alone. Yeah. He's good for the season. The defensive line looked a lot better than I thought it would. Especially against the team that they were playing. The defensive line looked better than I thought it would. Especially against the team that they were playing. So I think that they're good enough. No. Gurley not getting in. I don't think he. I don't think he played long enough. He didn't play enough here. He didn't play enough here. And he didn't have. Like he.
[00:45:52] He would have had to get rings like Terrell Davis did. Yeah. Like he would have had to do what Terrell Davis did. You know. So I think Washington is one of those teams that. Is on the brink. But just is not good enough. You know. So I'll start there. You know. I think that Tennessee is. Is who we think they are. You know. This is a bad team. Miami. I already said Miami was going to be the worst team in the league. You know what I mean. But. They looked even worse than I thought.
[00:46:22] You know. Like they looked even worse than I thought. Third and. Third and six. And the DBs. 12, 13 yards away. And you know. You got a defensive head coach at that. Against Kirk Cousins. Now they did pick Kirk Cousins twice. But everybody does that. You know what I'm saying. And welcome to the 300 touchdown club. I saw Eli Manitou. Interception at a kid's camp. Eli Manitou. Interception at a kid's camp. A few years back. When my son went. To a freshman. In high school. I think. The Giants.
[00:46:53] Could be. I'm not quite there yet. I do like the way they control the clock. But. That secondary is food. You know what I mean. And. And their receivers. Aren't necessarily. Like outside of Malik neighbors. I don't know if there's anybody. That you fear. But I think that they're coached. Good enough. That they'll beat some teams. That they shouldn't beat. And I'm real interested in next Monday night. You know. Them. Going out to LA. To play the Rams. That's going to be. To get one of the early games.
[00:47:23] Of the season right there. Because if the Rams lose that game. That is really going to fall apart. Ashton Jensie did have a great game. You know. I do. I don't. I'm. I don't think Buffalo. Is who they showed themselves to be. You know what I mean. Like. I think that. Go ahead. Yeah. Josh Allen. Josh Allen. Josh Allen. Plays like.
[00:47:51] Like a high school quarterback. That has college offers. And the coaches just let him kind of do whatever he wants. And then at the end of the game. You look at everybody's stat sheet. And certain guys. Just didn't get involved. You know. He'll have two or three passing touchdowns. But he'll also have like. Two or three rushing touchdowns. But your running back didn't get the ball 18 times. You know. Like. It just feels like. He could.
[00:48:19] I think they rely so much on him. That it takes other guys out of their rhythm. He throws a lot of like. Jump balls to tight ends. So it's a lot of wide receivers. Just doing cardio. I don't know if that's sustainable. You know. He throws a lot of jump balls to Kincaid. He throws a lot of. You know. He'll point, point, point. And then scramble. And get 12 or 14 yards. And not throw the ball at all. Red zone.
[00:48:47] He doesn't get the ball to wide receivers. So guys who are kind of relying on. It's a team game. But I also need. Numbers to support my argument. But he kind of takes it on himself. Just to get. You know. And we all want to win. But you're not. You know. You see what I'm saying? It's like. Like our quarterback. You know. Shout out to Brent Lulak. He runs a lot of touchdowns. But if you open in the scene.
[00:49:17] He's letting it go. Like he's calling. He wants to get you the ball. But it's like. There's no one in the corner. Yeah. I'm scrambling for this touchdown. But the next time I do that rollout. If you open in the back of the end zone. From the five. I'm throwing it to you. So I'm getting you involved. You get me up the field. I just feel like sometimes. Josh Allen just looks at it like. Oh. I'm putting the team on my back. And I'm going to do this thing. When I could have just given it to James Cook. Or I could have just thrown the ball. You know. Coleman. And let him jog in.
[00:49:48] I think. I think it's hard to. Take anything away from Jacksonville's win. Against Cleveland. I already knew. Jacksonville had a damn good offense. You know what I mean. We'll find out about them in mile high this week. So I'll wait on that one. The Colts are who I thought they were. You know. I think what we saw the real Colts. You know. Those linebackers are young. They were lost. You know. And they.
[00:50:15] Their line wasn't getting the pressure that I thought they could get. Especially on Baltimore's young offensive line. And replacing two players. All people are lost the first six weeks against Lamar though. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. Don't do me like that. That. That. Up to about. About October 20th. Lamar Jackson. Lamar Jackson. Unhit. It's tough for everybody. It is tough.
[00:50:45] No. No. I. I. I just think that. Daniel Jones. You know. Is back. Like. I don't know. He's. He's not back. You know. It's going to take him. Four or five games. Just to kind of get warmed up. And back. Into. Into things. I think the Patriots. Are being sold short. You know. Because. They went up to Seattle. Super Bowl. Rematch. Drake May. Made some bad decisions. And I think that. People are. Out on the Patriots. Out on Drake May. As if they weren't playing.
[00:51:15] The Super Bowl champions. In that stadium. Yeah. But they didn't look like. They. It's one thing to play. Super Bowl champions. But it didn't look like. They had a counter punch. I mean. Like. They didn't look like. Well you can have a counter punch. These dudes don't play preseason. Oh wow. What are you. Chris Collinsworth. All of a sudden. Tom Brady. It's a thing. It's a thing. Like. There's a such thing as rhythm. Like. Jamar Chase. He had like. Two catches. 14 yards yesterday. You think that's normal. Against Tampa.
[00:51:45] It's not like. They were playing. Denver secondary. Or you know. Something like that. Like these dudes. You know what I'm saying. They need to. They need to get it right. So we'll give all. We'll give all. 32 teams. A preseason. Game. This is week one. It happens. So. Week two. We got Atlanta. Playing Carolina. Carolina next week. Yep.
[00:52:16] We'll see how it goes. Washington Dallas. Because the defense looks good. I like Washington. I like the way they looked. Their offensive play. Calling in the scheme. Didn't help. Like. I don't think Terry McLaurin. Had much of an impact. He didn't have a catch. Until that last drive. Yeah. So. But I also felt like. He wasn't really open. And. Don't even get me started. On that. Penalty on digs either. Like. You know what I'm saying. I mean watching these. Dallas Cowboy games.
[00:52:46] And they be jumping. Into a whole bucket. And don't get no penalty. You can't touch. You can't touch the goal post. Nah. Fuck that. You can't. That's a stupid ass rule. Then don't do it. Stupid ass rule. AJ Brown's down for four weeks. Yeah. But they didn't have AJ Brown last year. Did they? They were. You know. They're expecting them this year. They didn't have AJ Brown last year. I mean. Don't come on now. Don't do me like that. But. I said. I don't want to.
[00:53:15] Fuck about your leg. But. Ice up son. Ice up. All right. So. Mr. Logical. We got a potential war. This weekend. I'm not talking about Iran. I'm talking about Lane Kiffin. Walking into Vaught Hemingway Stadium. Down in Oxford. Mississippi. You're going to need the National Guard. You're going to need the CIA. You're going to need the men in black. It's war. Yeah.
[00:53:45] I saw two white girls fighting. And the dude said. Lane Kiffin. Not even here yet. They was fighting in cocktail dresses. Hotty toddy. Right? Two white girls. Five two. One oh five. Just throwing hooks. I'm like. Mississippi is different. Yeah. So. So. Okay. So. So. Here's. Here's my question. We ain't going to stay on this very long. But. But I just thought about. I was thinking about this earlier. In this matchup. If you were a part of it. Would you rather be Lane Kiffin.
[00:54:16] Or would you rather be Ole Miss? Lane Kiffin. Like just for the sense of. Just for the sake of this one game. Lane Kiffin. I would rather be Lane Kiffin for two reasons. One. I know. If I had to guess. I don't know what the turnover was. As far as Ole Miss players. That stay. That were coaching the Lane Kiffin. But I imagine. Of the 22 starters.
[00:54:46] He's probably. 22 starters. 10 extra role players. Of those 30 guys. Give or take. Like. I imagine he's pretty familiar. With what they can do. And what they can't do. Okay. And then it goes to LSU. With equal level talent. I don't think Ole Miss and LSU talent. Is like that far off. I think they're all. Just 4.5 star. Overall talent. The. Recruiting base. LSU might have a bit of a nod. So if I'm showing up.
[00:55:16] And I know who your best players are. And what they do well. And I'm showing up with a batch of players. That are just as good. If not better. Then I'm. I'm feeling a bit more confident. If I'm like. If I'm. So I think. This game is one of those. More psychological. Than X's and O's. Because. That place is going to be jacked. But are they going to be so jacked. That they're not executing. They're getting dumb penalties. You know. Taking extra shots after the play.
[00:55:46] Things of that nature. Like if you're. And if you're Ole Miss. You still feel kind of good. Because. You do have the defensive coordinator. Who is now the head coach. Pete Golding. So you have. So it's not like they went. Outside of the family. And hired a new coach. They hired a guy within. Who went against Lane Kiffin's. Offense in practice every day. You know what I mean. And. You had Charlie Weiss Jr. As. As the offensive coordinator. Who stayed at Ole Miss. During that playoff run. Before he went over to LSU. With Lane Kiffin.
[00:56:15] And so I think if you're Ole Miss. Like you have that same advantage. That Kiffin has. Now the difference is. Is how good can Sam Levitt be. You know. He had what. Three picks against Louisiana Tech. This past weekend. Clemson. I don't think is any good. But LSU is being sold to us. As. This could be the number one team. In the nation. Because they beat the hell out of Clemson. And. You know what I mean. Like. I don't think that that buys you. Any stock. You know. Right now. So.
[00:56:44] I think that I'd rather be Ole Miss. And on top of it all. It's at home. Like. I ain't got to go to Death Valley. So. You know. I got you coming into my place. I get it. But like. Louisiana is not that far from Mississippi. It's like. No. It's got to go. California. It's not. You know what. No. But that's not the point. Like. Louisiana is not that far. But also. While. Vaught Hemingway. Might not be Death Valley.
[00:57:15] LSU's never the visitor in Death Valley. You know what I mean. So. If it was in Death Valley. Ole Miss would be walking into a buzzsaw. That we know as a buzzsaw. People talk about legendary stories. Of Tiger Stadium. You know. Like. You don't have no Vaught Hemingway. Yeah. Hemingway stories. The film. I think the film. On. Ole Miss. Louisville. From. A couple weeks ago.
[00:57:46] Is enough. If I'm Ole Miss. To be concerned. With LSU coming in. Because Lane Kiffin. Has to know these players. Inside and out. And. I don't think. I don't think he feels pressure. Like. I talked about this before. With Lil Wayne. Lil Wayne said. Man. I talk shit like Lane Kiffin. That was like. 17 years ago. When he said that. Like. Lane Kiffin hasn't changed. So. I think these moments. And the MAG.
[00:58:16] He hasn't. He still doesn't win a lot of big games. Well. I mean. Listen. The man's been around. And he's been there for a long time. I don't think this is a big game. I think this is another game. For LSU. I think they're going to. I think they're going to be able to play. I think it'll look. It won't look like. LSU Clemson. It'll look more like. 48. 24.
[00:58:46] If LSU. If LSU walks in that stadium. Like it's another game. They're going to walk out. With their helmets in their hand. And their heads facing the ground. Now you saw the. You heard the leaked footage. What. From halftime. I don't know how true it is. You know AI and shit. Yeah. But. Because I don't trust you. That I believe on it right now. Even the results of games. Western Michigan. So. I don't think Lane Kiffin. Is taking people slight. I don't think he's taking it easy.
[00:59:15] But I think there's levels to this. And I think LSU. As much as people. I do not like the way. Lane Kiffin was allowed. To leave LSU. Meet Ole Miss. To go to LSU. Do the same way. I don't like. How he was trying to get. Guys off of. Practice squads. Back to campus. I don't like any of it. But as far as like. What's actually on campus. And what. You know. What he's bringing. From Louisiana.
[00:59:44] To Mississippi. For this game. I think the pressure. Is on Ole Miss. Is. I think the expectation. In. With their fan base. Is. You need to show him. What he left behind. Like the jaded ex-girlfriend. And he's like. Yeah. That's why I was talking about. The execution. And the penalties. And the. Personal files. And things of that nature. It's like. Listen. Yeah.
[01:00:13] You want him to feel like. He messed up. And he left you. For this new chick. That's not as dope. As you. When you. When she walks. Into the stadium. Being like. She bad. And that's what the LSU Tigers. Look like. Compared to Ole Miss. She's bad. Like. If you're going to leave me. You left me for them. I get it. And he's going to show. Why that's the case. And you got to keep in mind. He's coached a lot of football.
[01:00:43] Man. Like the guy. He took over. He's coached a lot of football. So I think. We kind of get enamored in this. This thing. Oh. Back and forth. Lane Kiffin's coach. The man took off his shoulder pads. At Fresno State. And became a coach. As a teenager. Essentially. He was a son of a coach. I don't really rock with him that much. But I think in this moment. I'm going to get an edge to the guy. That's a seasoned vet. Who's used to being the villain.
[01:01:12] At so many different levels. I think that. I think that. Factors more into. Just X's and O's. Yeah. I wish I could be there in person. I really do. So. The SEC. Right. Just drive man. All you got to do is drive. Start driving right now. Texas. So Texas. Took care of Ohio State. You know. But Oklahoma went down. To Michigan.
[01:01:42] So far. The SEC. Is eight and two. Against the other. Power four conferences. And Notre Dame. What conference do you think is second? Big 12. The big 12. Four and six. Or no. The ACC. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. ACC. Five and six. Big 12. Four and six. Big 10. Three and seven. Doesn't mean anything. The SEC.
[01:02:12] No matter how much. People want to just kind of focus on. The national championship game. Or even the national championship tournament. Of 12 teams. To get to the. The SEC. Simply put. Has the best. Homegrown recruiting advantage. Of any region in the country. First and foremost. They have that. You can't argue that.
[01:02:42] At all. And we can talk about this. Hold up. Hold up. Hold up. Hold up. Hey Mike. The Big 10 is so different. That Michigan State is a 30 and a half point. Underdog at Notre Dame this weekend. That's disgusting. You should have brought that to Mike. Mike. You're better than that. Mike. You're better than that. Listen. I understand. Recruiting is a nationwide. Proclamation. Everything is going on. But the SEC.
[01:03:13] The SEC. The SEC. Your favorite teams. One of your. Your favorite teams. Top four player. Probably played in the SEC. And as far as NFL. NFL. They are just. They just have. They have everything you need. As far as. High school talent. The transition. The college talent. They're always going to be up there. They play against each other. It's tougher than. Playing in the ACC. It's tougher than playing in the Big 10. No matter how much we want to highlight the Big 10. I get it's tougher than playing in the Big 12.
[01:03:43] I'm not going to give them credit. The end saying. You should. Usurp. Someone else. Because the rules that are established in college football. Like listen. You got to win these many games. To get into the tournament. Whatever the case may be. I'm not going to put an 8 win SEC school. Against a 10 win. Big 12 school. And say they should. Take over. But as far as like. The collective talent. Of football. In America. It comes from that region. There's no. There's no. There's no argument there. So as the season plays out.
[01:04:13] Your one or two top SEC schools. They're going to. They're going to get leeway of two losses. Texas. Georgia. Whatever. Bama. LSU. They're going to get two losses. Ole Miss maybe. Which other one. Ole Miss. Those five schools. Will be allowed to lose two games. To each other. In that space. And still be considered for the playoffs. The Big 10. Indiana.
[01:04:42] Indiana cannot lose. The Michigan State. And Nebraska. And then say. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Leave my school out of this. My school don't have. My school has. Look at the schedules. Mike. Look at the schedules. You know what I'm saying. But I. So I think that. It's week two. You know what I'm saying. Making a definitive statement.
[01:05:12] Either way. Is obviously. A little premature. We'll get to Oregon. In a minute. But. Do I think that Ohio State. Can beat. The majority of SEC teams. Yes. You know. Do I think Indiana. Majority. Yeah. Majority. But. So. I'm talking about all. All 16 teams. Like the only teams. The only teams. Like Ohio State. Should have won that game.
[01:05:42] Against Texas. The other day. You know. All Ryan Day had to do. Was let him score. But. We'll get into that. In a minute. You know what I mean. Like. I think. They. They could lose to Georgia. You know. They could lose to LSU. For Ole Miss. To beat Ohio State. Trinidad Chambliss. Would just have to go. Absolutely. Bananas. I think they could beat. Everybody else. I don't know. Julian. Saying. It has that. Backpack. Kind of mentality. That I think you need. Well. Well. No. It ain't. Okay.
[01:06:12] Let's get there then. It's not actually. Julian. Saying. It is who. Mr. Logical. Jeremiah Smith. No. It's Arthur Smith. Oh. He's the coordinator. Yeah. You know what I'm saying. That's what happened in that game. Because. Julian. Saying. Doesn't. Julian. Saying. Doesn't have. Shout out to. My northern brother. And Greyhounds. My son. Top 20. New Jersey. Receiving yards. Even though he plays linebacker. I'll let you boy. Brent.
[01:06:42] Like. The starting quarterback. Top six. In pass rating. The state. New Jersey. I'm just plugging these guys. Because they're playing really hard. They're seniors. I watched some places. They were seven years old. He makes plays. When you need it. I stand. I stand. His dad sits next to me. During the game. I stand. It's third and eight. Fourth and eight. He's like. What do you think they're going to call? I'm like. You know what they're going to call. His name. I call it. The Waluwak wiggle. Rentsko make a play. We know it. I know it. Every week. I've known it.
[01:07:12] Every week. Since Obama was president. Straight up. I'm not even exaggerating. He has that. It factor. Where he makes things happen for the team. Even at a young age. Julian saying. Does not have it. He does not have that. I think. Hop in his backpack. I got you. So with Arthur Smith. It could be a three. It could be a three lost year. His name. Brent Waluwak. Quarterback draw. Personally. I call it.
[01:07:41] The Waluwak wiggle. That's my personal name for it. Because he just gets in and out. It's a touchdown. I'll send y'all clips. So I think. Julian saying. Has that piece. And Arthur Smith is not going to bring it out of him. Because Arthur Smith is a. Very regimented. Checkerboard. Like offensive coordinator. And I think Ohio State's probably looking at three losses this year. Well, I think. If they rely on him. I think that Julian saying. Has been overcoached.
[01:08:13] He's been overcoached. He's been overcoached. Because like obviously. You know. You're going to take a quarterback. A new quarterback. And you're going to try to make the game easy for him. You're going to try to put him in positions. Where he's not putting the ball in danger. So when he came. Became Ohio State's quarterback last year. They opened up the season against Texas. So you know. You didn't get that warm up. Bowling Green. Or Akron. And LeBron James. You know. Said when you going to donate to that Akron NIL.
[01:08:43] Anyway. But Julian saying. In that game against Texas. It was basically like. Hey. This team can't beat us. It's like. When you watch boxing. And I was watching Amir Khan fight Canelo. And he was quick. But Canelo ate those punches. And was like. You can't back me up. You can't back me up. I'm still coming forward. So I think that. In that game. Julian saying. Just kind of got the ride. The wave.
[01:09:13] Don't put the ball in danger. Be smart. Get down. Take the sack. And he got out of there. Would have win. Then the rest of the season. Their defense was so dominant. Their defense was so dominant. That. He didn't have to. Win a lot of games. He never faced that pressure cooker. Of. Hey. We need this drive. So we can win. You know. Or whatever the case may be. He never had to make that. Fourth quarter comeback. So then they get to the Big Ten Championship game.
[01:09:43] Play against Indiana. Whose defense is as good as them. And. You know. He. He couldn't make the plays. Indiana's defense was too fast. Too sound. Too structured for him. They get to the playoff. They play against Miami. Miami got speed everywhere. You know. So Jeremiah Smith had a good game. But. The team didn't have a good game. So now you come into this season.
[01:10:12] You open up with Ball State. Get your rocks off. No pun intended. And then. You go play Texas. So now. This is new Texas. Where Arch. Has got experience now. Their defense is better. They hit the transfer portal. They have a running game now. So now you're going to have to make plays. So what did they do? They came out all game. It looked like the old Atlanta Falcons. Not the Arthur Smith Atlanta Falcons. Older than that. And they go. Hey we got Julio Jones.
[01:10:41] Just keep tossing the ball to him. And that's what they did. They kept tossing the ball to Jeremiah Smith. And he was making plays. But. And this was open a time or two. You know. You got Chris Henry's son. You got Legend Bay. Who I was comparing to Percy Harvin last week. So you got all this weaponry. And you're focused. On this one player. That makes it easy for the defense to either go. Hey. You know what?
[01:11:10] Make sure nobody else beats you. You have to know. You have to know how games are won. And how to be a winner. To understand that. I'm the. I'm the conductor of this offense. So whatever the play call is. You got to get to the huddle. Look around and say. Five star. Five star. Five star.
[01:11:39] Five star wide receiver. My offensive line. Five star. Five star. Whatever the play is. I can make anything happen. With the ten guys. I'm looking into their eyes. But you got to understand that. As a player. Intrinsically. I don't think Julian Sand. Understands it. I think he looks at it like. Oh. The play is. What's what's John Gruden's favorite play?
[01:12:08] X, Y, spider, Y, banana, whatever it is. Whatever that play is. Not the fullback supposed to get the ball in the flat. That's where the ball goes. But instead of him looking over like. Oh. Jeremiah's been torching this guy all game. This safety is on the hash. Well, he should be in the middle. Let me. Let me go this other way. Oh. That's not a wiggle clip. That's cookies and cream. Obviously.
[01:12:38] My son. And Brent. My son. Josiah Redley. Brent. I'm incorporating this. Listen. This is the senior. He got six games left. I'm talking about every single week. But. That's the difference. It's like. When they're keying on Brent. Because Brent's such a good quarterback. He knows. Oh. You're keying on me. This linebacker is going to watch me. If I take two steps to the right. I'm going to take two steps to the right. And. The side is going to run right after. Seem. Or run up right at the sideline on this wheel route.
[01:13:08] He's going to be wide open. Or Marky on the back side is going to run. Wide open of a scene. Because this safety is watching him. And he slide over here. Julian Sands sees the play like. Oh. This is what Arthur Smith called. Fernando Mendoza. That fourth and five. I can't imagine they called a quarterback draw. In that. In a national championship game. You just got to see it. And you got to make the play. I just don't think. Ohio State is going to be able to rely on.
[01:13:37] Him. Him. To just make the play. Based off the Arthur Smith call. Yeah. So why didn't Ryan Day. Let Texas score. Listen. You tell me. You love him as a coach. Well. I don't love him as a coach. I just think he's a good coach. I don't think he's a great coach. I just. You know. You know. He. Um. They were at the one. You know. With about 40 seconds or so left. You know.
[01:14:07] Ohio State had just missed the field goal. And he just tried to play straight up defense. Which I can respect. From an old school mentality of. Defending that line. You know what I mean. I can. But. You know what I mean. They're at the one. You know. Say. You got Arch Manning. You got Cam Coleman over there. You got Wingo over here. You got Relique or Hollywood back there. They're going to get one yard at some point. And. But what's going to happen is.
[01:14:36] You're going to waste time out. And they're going to milk clock. And get the touchdown to where. Now you have to rush to get your. And all that Ohio State needed was a field goal. You know what I mean. But. I wonder if. Since the kicker had just missed. I wonder if Ryan Day got in his own head. And was like. I don't want this to come down to a kick. So we're just going to die. Or live or die on that sword. I think you. You believe.
[01:15:05] You believe. In goal line stops. Do you believe. Because you have. You have the players to make that happen. Well because you stopped Notre Dame a couple of years ago. With 10 men on the field. That would go. With Sam Hartman. Shout out to the commanders. Um. But. It's. It's a bad.
[01:15:34] The triangle of. Leadership. That Ohio State is dealing with. Between Ryan Day. Who. Like. What is this? This is a. It's probably his 10th loss. No. I think he's up to like. 13 now. I think he's up to like. 13 now. I think. 12. At most it's 12. But it's at least 80 plus wins. And a national championship. 83 and 13.
[01:16:03] What a national championship. And every week. He seems to be on the hot seat. He brings in a guy like Arthur Smith. Who isn't. Once again. Not a force multiplier. He doesn't. He doesn't make. He doesn't. He doesn't. He doesn't. He doesn't. He doesn't. He doesn't. He doesn't. He doesn't. I haven't changed my tone on him. He's not an Eric B enemy. Where it's like. Oh. Eric B enemy is gone. Our offense looks less explosive. Arthur Smith leaves.
[01:16:32] Your offense looks about the same. Maybe a little better. Definitely not like. Oh wow. He definitely was a force multiplier. I mean to be fair. Arthur Smith didn't blow a 23 to 3 lead either. So I mean. There's that too. Listen. If you call the plays. That gets you 30 to 3. Like once. Once you get the ball back. It's your job to put points on the board. As an offensive coordinator. That's it. And. Hey man. Anahan. He's not going to do it. You know. But then.
[01:17:02] The Oregon Ducks went out here and lost. You know. They went down. We talked about this preseason. And. Who's going to be a new order. Your current security. Well. So. That was the guy you picked out. Yeah. I still believe it. You know what I mean. One game ain't going to change that. Yeah. Like. I just. I just think that Oregon. You know. So one thing is. They got. Two brand new coordinators. You know. So both sides of the ball. You know. You got change over there.
[01:17:33] You know. But. It's kind of eerily similar to Penn State. You know. Where they came in. Top. Two or three. Last year. And then it just all fell apart. But I think the problem with Oregon is. They played Boise. Boise. If you. If you weren't watching it. And like. You just walked in the room. And you were colorblind. You would have thought Boise was Oregon. The way that their lines was pushing Oregon around. You would have just assumed.
[01:18:02] That got to be Oregon. Oregon's number. They just have a thing. Yeah. Oregon just has a thing. Where like Boise State. And that. That royal blue and orange comes through. And they just. They don't know how to. They don't know how to react to it. Yeah. Yeah. It's probably got. I don't know. You know what I'm saying. But. But basically. Like. So. So what happened was. I think you go into the locker room. After that game. And you go. Man. That was our C plus effort. And we still won. And I think you get comfortable.
[01:18:33] You know. So I think you come out. And against. And still water. Right. Oklahoma State was on this long losing streak. They were just coming off of a loss to Tulsa. And you're like. Man. That ain't no sweat. We took care of boys. So. I think so. You think so. And. Yeah. You don't think they came in. They came in tight. Because they had the tight game with Boise. And that's why they kind of came out flat. No. I think Oklahoma State. Came out. And just threw everything at them. Because they didn't have nothing to lose. But also.
[01:19:02] One of Oklahoma State's. I believe it was a defensive lineman. He came out. And said that. When they were watching film on Oregon. There was basically. A hitch. Or some kind of movement. That the line would make. That would tip them off. Like. Oh. That's a run. Or. Hey. That's a pass. So. I don't know. You know. Obviously. He could have been talking trash. Whatever. But that's what he said. Right. So. So. So. I think Oklahoma State came out. Lost to Tulsa.
[01:19:33] It's your first game at home. As the new head coach. Already down. You know. Saying. Oregon. You know. Comes in there. Okay. We're big bad. We're number two in the country. Line it up. And then. You got. The guy that led. The nation in passing. Last year. Drew Nestermaker. You got Caleb Hawkins. Who led the nation in rushing touchdowns. Last year. You got a couple of wide receivers. That came with him. And I think you just put something together. Like. Maybe you made it simpler.
[01:20:02] And you just came out. And threw the book at Oregon. Because we're not. We're 23 and a half point underdogs. We're supposed to lose this game. So. So. Second quarter points. Yeah. I'm going to venture to say that. Oklahoma State. Abuses for. They were playing with house money. They're playing at home. Yeah. They're playing. You said 23 and a half point underdog. Yeah. And you have. You.
[01:20:31] Peg this coach. As the next. Kurt Signetti. That was the conversation you were having. Like hey. Who could do it again? You're like. Well this guy from North Texas. Took all of his talent. From Oklahoma. From North Texas. Oklahoma State. Yeah. Yeah. So. You talked about Dan Lanning. Not being able to win the big game. That was. That was a knock. You've always had on him. Well not being able to win. In a big game. Is probably conducive to you.
[01:21:01] Not being able to. Convey a sense of urgency. All week long. I think if you understand. All week long. As a player. The magnitude of this game. And then you execute in practice. To that level. I think that comes from the coaching staff. This needs to be perfect. This needs to be perfect. I need you here. I need this. I need you to not give away. When we're giving up running plays.
[01:21:31] Or give away. When we're doing the passing play. I think that comes. That's. That's an extension of the attitude. Of the. Of the head coach. Hence why I feel. Lane Kiffin's. Lack of a better word. Aura. On the LSU. Ole Miss game. Dan Lanning. Like you said. That's one of your knocks on him. And you're allowed that. When you are. One of these upper echelon. Programs. Oregon. Michigan. Ohio State. Texas. You can lose.
[01:22:00] You can lose a bad one. I think. Well. I think this is the first game. Because you have the talent. That can make up for that bad loss. Well. I think this is the first game. And. And I'm just. Off the top of my head right now. You know. I think that. This is the first game. That he lost. That you can look at. And go. That was egregious. You know what I mean? Like. Because. Because he's. He's 49 and nine. As a head coach. You know. He lost three times. To Michael.
[01:22:30] Penix. You know. He lost. To Ohio State. In the playoff. They got ran off the field. So you could get it. So you could get at him. For losing by 28 points. But Ohio State. Was a buzzsaw. That they had beat already. In the regular season. You know. His first game. They lost 59 to three. You could get on him. About that. That was against Georgia. When Georgia. Was at the height of their powers. You know what I mean? So like. He doesn't have many losses. Like. He lost one to Oregon State.
[01:23:00] When Oregon State. Was still good. And that's your rival. So like. This is the first loss. That is really like. Dude. How could you lose that game? Game. So now it's going to be interesting. To see how they react to that. You know. So I'm interested. You know. And I think it's time to buy stock in Oregon. Because. You know what I mean? Like. Obviously they're going to be going into Big Ten play soon. And. There's going to be some tough games. In three weeks. They get USC. You know. Or two weeks. Two weeks. Maybe.
[01:23:29] They're going to get USC. And it's at. As I like to call it. Trojanjeles. So. You know what I mean? Like. If you go up in there and lose. Now you might have to have a conversation. And your season is over. You know what I mean? But. If you could get out of. USC with a win. You know. That might be something that rejuvenates you. Because I do think. There was a point where they scored last week. Made it 31 to 30. And I think. They thought like. Okay. We're locked in now. Yeah. We're here. Yeah. We danced around long enough.
[01:23:59] We gave up the 21. First. First quarter. Second quarter points. Now we're back. And then Oklahoma State was like. Listen. Still house money. Bet it right back. And then last thing. Last thing. Before we get out of here. Mr. Logical. Florida State fired their athletic director. Mike Alford. But I have a different question. Yes. Was it his fault? I mean. You're the one to hire people. Like. All right. But hold on.
[01:24:29] We'll get to that though. But. All right. Real quick. Real quick. This is the question. Florida State. At Alabama this weekend. What's that point spread? 17 and a half. 20 and a half. Ooh. That was close. That was close. That's why your athletic director gets fired. This is a team that you beat by two touchdowns last year. So Florida State's favorite this year. Look at you guys. Two years in a row.
[01:24:59] No. That's not what I said. That's not what's happening? That's not what's happening? Alabama favorite. Yes. At home. At home. At home. Over a team that you beat last year by two touchdowns, by the way. Taking a point. But the reason. But the reason that this. No. But the reason that this happens, Mr. Lodger. The reason that this happens. Mike Norvell. You remember they went 13 and one. Got left out the playoffs? Correct. If you take that season away, his record is 26 and 34.
[01:25:29] Okay. Not good. He's been there seven years. Outside of that season, he had one other winning season. In seven years. So he went 10 and three that year. You take that away, he's 16 and 31. That's why the AD got fired. On top of the fact that he started this fight with the ACC. And, you know, made the university look bad. Lost, you know, the court case or whatever.
[01:25:58] Didn't get out the conference like they wanted to. Is he? Okay. Is he a good recruiter? How often is. Oh. So is his contract huge? Yes. His buyout. According to what I found earlier, his buyout right now is somewhere between 51 and 59 million.
[01:26:25] What if you can negotiate down to, then you're comfortable paying him to get up out of there? There's some point where. You got the checkbook. You got the checkbook. If I got the checkbook. Well, like, so obviously this is where money comes in and you got to be fiscally responsible. Right. Because. If Florida State had the money, he wouldn't be there right now. Yeah. If Florida State had the money, he wouldn't be there right now.
[01:26:51] Because not only do you got to worry about his buyout, you got to worry about bringing in the next coach that's good enough that you're going to have to pay. You know what I'm saying? Like you're going to have to pay your next coach somewhere between eight and 10 million possibly. So, like, if you. So, like, I don't think there is a number because if I'm Norvell, why would I? You're not negotiating. Yeah, I'm not negotiating with terrorists. Yeah. Like, you know what I mean?
[01:27:20] Like, y'all going to keep me until this buyout gets down to 35 or something like that. I mean, like I said, I've never been in a conversation of negotiation on that magnitude. But you can't enjoy going to work every day with this kind of substandard performance kind of being levied upon your shoulders.
[01:27:49] So it's like, man, yo, let's cut the check. Twenty nine and a half million. What's the spread? Twenty twenty and a half. Twenty and a half. Twenty and a half at Tuscaloosa. All right, man. Go ahead and give me twenty and a half and let me out of this. Y'all take care of my taxes for the next five years. And like, we good. Because it can't be worth it. It can't be worth it, especially in this era of transfer portals.
[01:28:15] It's not like he's recruiting a bunch of high school kids and watching develop. And that's the thing that's keeping him going. It's like, yo, you out here just getting molly whopped. You had the one argument where people gave you sympathy when your quarterback went down and they put Alabama and Texas in the 14 playoff. That's your claim to fame. In the state of Florida.
[01:28:42] So if I might Norville, fire me. So I can go to Arizona State and hang out with my guy, Kenny Dillingham. You know what I mean? But now these Florida State fans losing their damn minds because they talking about why don't we bring Jimbo back? Man, Jimbo on ESPN hanging out. I think he's still spending FSU and Texas A&M money.
[01:29:09] So, yeah, I mean, it's a dangerous game, but you got to you got to figure out you got to get in where you fit in. Like I said, college football is very interesting. Shout out to Michigan for making people ignore the fact that they were gifted a victory or gifted an opportunity to earn a victory against Western Michigan by beating Oklahoma. It's crazy. It's crazy because they dropped Michigan out of the top 25. Right. Right.
[01:29:36] But they made them the first team, but they made them the first team out. So when they beat Oklahoma, they moved Michigan up nine spots. Okay. Up to 19 or seven spots up to. No, I think it is nine spots. Let me see. I got it right here. They they moved Michigan. Oregon at 21. Yeah. They got Oregon at 21. You know, they went from six or from two to 21 or something like that.
[01:30:05] But but like I think like like Michigan. Hold on. Let me pull this up. They they they had a I think it was nine spots. Yeah. So it was nine spots. So they were at 28. Now they're ranked at 19. So they so that win was good enough to move them up nine spots. And then you dropped Oklahoma by 13 spots. Right. So why was you? Why was the win? Why was the win?
[01:30:34] Right. Why was the win good enough to move them up nine spots? If it was bad, if the loss was bad enough to drop a team 13 spots. And why is Tulsa not ranked? They beat Oklahoma State, by the way. Something Oregon couldn't do. You know, sad. It's interesting. Shout out to USC being three, you know, at 12. Western Michigan at number 25.
[01:31:03] Oh, one or one and one. Hey, they had Notre Dame top 25 at oh and two last year. Yeah, but that's Rudy and all the movies and shit. I mean, we all we all like I said, I've always been a big proponent of what's something they'll never do. The first rankings coming out after all the September games are played.
[01:31:30] I think that gets you four games at least on average because they start with zero week is before Labor Day. Generally, generally over the last few years. I know what the NFL and the college schedule and our, you know, continental infatuation with football. We've kind of moved it up earlier. But I feel like the month of September gives us enough games, a big enough snapshot to where.
[01:31:58] The first week in October getting our top 20, our first top 25 is a reasonable assessment. Yeah. So, you know, it is what it is. It's interesting, you know, because I'm always a component. Man, that's a that's a pact in school. Cut it up. If you're going to do these rankings. I'm good with just ranking. Right. It's going to play itself out. So if you put somebody in the ranking today.
[01:32:28] They won't be there later if they don't deserve to be. Yeah. You don't say so. So that's the way that that's why I can say put Tulsa in the top 25. You don't say they beat that Oklahoma State team that beat Oregon. You don't say if they don't belong, they'll fall out. You know what I mean? But but this is the but that's but that's the thing. Right. Because Boise is the creme de la creme as far as the G6 goes.
[01:32:53] So you can't put other teams ahead of Boise because now you're putting somebody in the playoff line ahead of Boise. Yeah. And you want to and you want to keep Boise where, you know, since they played Oregon so well, you want to keep them close as you can. Yeah. They're packed in, Mike. I don't care all this this realignment for the money. USC is a Pac-10 school, not even Pac-12, Pac-10. I'm going old school. I got gray hair in my beard. I'm not switching up.
[01:33:22] Yeah. All right. Real quick. Oh, yeah. Boise is. Boise is. I think Boise is the most popular of the G5 schools. And like I said, after the first 12 weeks, it's a popularity contest. So that's why I think they keep Boise where they are, because Boise can kind of sell out Arizona. Boise can. Boise can sell games in Pasadena. So Pasadena is not a very big stadium. So if they had to play in the Rose Bowl for the playoff, if they're, you know, 11 and one or whatever that number is.
[01:33:54] Arizona, when they play the game at the Cardinal Stadium, I think they could fill that out. Maybe not Dallas. I know Jerry Royal tends to get one of these big games, but Arizona and anywhere in the state of California, I think Boise can get enough fans there. And I think that's a big proponent to why they're normally the creme de la creme of the G5 schools. All right.
[01:34:23] So Thursday night football, Lions, Bills, what's your pick? Is that Orchard Park? Or I think it's at the new stadium, actually. Is it already open? I think it might be at the new stadium. I thought it wasn't open yet. But I'll take the Bills, you know, even though, like I said, Josh Allen plays like a high school QB. I'll take the Bills just because they're at home.
[01:34:49] And I think that New Orleans tape for any team that's playing against their defense is enough tape for you to be like, you know what? I think we can. We can do the same thing New Orleans did with Tyler Shuck. Yeah, I'm going with the Bills as well. You know, I will be flipping between that and Pitt and Syracuse, you know, ACC stand up.
[01:35:15] But we will be back on Friday, you know, with some weekend picks. I'm getting all pumped up for some more college football. Getting ready for week two of the NFL.
